Sydney Sweeney is generating major buzz in Hollywood as rumors swirl that she could be the next Bond girl. The 27-year-old actress, best known for her role in Euphoria, is reportedly the top pick for the upcoming James Bond movie, according to The Sun on Sunday.

The new 007 film is already set to be a big change for the franchise. Daniel Craig left the role after No Time To Die in 2021, and a brand-new actor will take on James Bond. Director Denis Villeneuve, who was officially named to helm the project last year is said to be particularly interested in Sweeney for the role.

Amazon, which now controls the Bond films, is backing Villeneuve’s vision, with Jeff Bezos personally supporting the casting rumors.

A source told The Sun, “Sydney is the top name on the casting sheet for Bond. Denis believes she is hugely talented, as well as having an alluring appeal to younger generations, vital in modernising the franchise.” The insider added, “They’ve hung out together a lot and he has admired her stratospheric rise. Plus Sydney has the quality of being athletic and able to perform physical scenes, as well as being feminine and following in the legacy of the Bond girls.”

Sweeney has already shown she can handle challenging roles. In a W Magazine interview, she said, “In general, if something scares me, then usually I’m going to do it, because that means I’m challenging myself.”

She also spoke about filming nude scenes, stating, “I don’t get nervous [about shooting nude scenes]… I think that the female body is a very powerful thing. And I’m telling my character’s story, so I owe it to them to tell it well and to do what needs to be done.” Her confidence and versatility in acting make her a natural fit for a high-profile franchise like Bond.

Villeneuve is known for his strong visual storytelling, including his work on the Dune series, and he has promised to honor the legacy of James Bond while introducing fresh ideas. He told reporters, “Some of my earliest movie-going memories are connected to 007. I grew up watching James Bond films with my father, ever since Dr. No with Sean Connery. To me, he’s sacred territory. I intend to honour the tradition and open the path for many new missions to come.”

Mike Hopkins of Amazon MGM Studios praised the director, saying, “Denis has delivered compelling worlds, dynamic visuals, complex characters, and – most importantly – the immersive storytelling that global audiences yearn to experience in theatres. James Bond is in the hands of one of today’s greatest filmmakers and we cannot wait to get started on 007’s next adventure.”

When asked about the rumors in a recent interview with Variety, Sweeney gave a playful and honest response. “I can’t. [Seven-second pause.] I don’t know. [Ten-second pause.] To be honest, I don’t know all the Bond rumors, but I’ve always been a huge fan of the franchise, and I’m excited and curious to see what they do with it,” she said. She also admitted, “Depends on the script. I think I’d have more fun as James Bond.”

With her talent, rising star power, and confidence in taking on big roles, Sydney Sweeney seems like a natural choice for the next Bond girl. Nothing is official yet, but the excitement around her potential casting is already intense. Fans are eagerly watching for updates as Amazon and Denis Villeneuve prepare to launch the next chapter in the James Bond saga.

Sweeney has all the qualities to make a Bond girl memorable, athletic, smart, confident, and capable of handling complex scenes. Do you think she would be the perfect addition to the Bond legacy? Share your thoughts in the comments.
