Daniel Radcliffe has made it clear that staying off social media is a choice he feels good about, and he has no regrets.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the actor opened up about why he avoids platforms like Instagram and X. When asked if he ever feels left out by not being online, his answer was simple. Literally never.

Radcliffe said social media looks more stressful than fun. He explained that he already deals with enough pressure in daily life and does not think scrolling and posting would help his mental health. Honestly, it seems so stressful. I’m stressed enough, he said, adding that being online would not do him any favors emotionally.

At the time of the interview, Radcliffe was deep into rehearsals for his upcoming one-man Broadway play, Every Brilliant Thing, which opens in March. He shared a moment from rehearsal where others were talking about apps designed to limit phone use. Watching that conversation only confirmed that his choice to stay away feels right for him.

While he does use the internet, Radcliffe said he keeps a clear line between browsing online and engaging on social media. He joked that his decision might someday embarrass his young son. I’m sure this is going to be the thing that when my son is older [will] make him think of me as unspeakably old, he said, laughing. Still, he added, I can’t do it.

Radcliffe shares his two-year-old son with his wife, Erin Darke. The couple has kept their child’s name private.

This is not the first time Radcliffe has spoken about avoiding social media. In past interviews, he admitted that when he was younger, he would search for comments about himself online, which took a toll on him. He said doing that was unhealthy and that modern platforms feel like an extension of that habit.

He also once joked that if he ever joined Twitter, it would likely end with headlines about him arguing with strangers online. I 100 percent know that if I did, you all would be waking up to stories like, “Dan Radcliffe gets into fight with random person on Twitter,” he said in an earlier appearance.

Radcliffe has been open about knowing his limits. He said he does not feel mentally strong enough to manage the nonstop opinions and noise that come with having public accounts, and he is fine with that. I’m all right with that, he said.

Radcliffe’s honesty is refreshing. In a world where fame often comes with constant online access, choosing peace over presence feels smart, not outdated. It also sends a strong message that protecting your mental health matters more than keeping up with trends. What do you think about celebrities staying off social media? Would you do the same if you were in their position? Share your thoughts in the comments.
