Kit Harington and Sophie Turner may have spent nearly a decade building a bond as siblings on Game of Thrones. Still, their latest professional reunion has forced them into much more intimate territory. The two actors, who famously played Jon Snow and Sansa Stark, are starring as love interests in the new Gothic horror film The Dreadful, which officially arrives in theaters on February 20.

While fans of the HBO epic have been eager to see the duo share the screen again, the transition from family members to romantic partners was apparently a visceral challenge for the pair. An exclusive behind-the-scenes look recently shared by Entertainment Tonight captured the lighthearted but awkward reality of their on-screen chemistry.

In the clip, the two are seen jokingly gagging and retching immediately after filming a kissing scene for the medieval drama. Turner, who also served as a producer on the project, has been candid about the physical reaction, describing the experience of lip-locking with her long-term friend as vile and the worst.

Harington shared similar sentiments during an interview with E! News, admitting that the shift in their dynamic felt f*king weird from the moment he read the script. He noted that the awkwardness was heightened by the physical logistics of the scene, as he jokingly lamented having to stand on an apple box just to reach the height of his much taller co-star.

Despite the initial embarrassment and the faux-nausea, Harington emphasized that their friendship completely ignited on set, making the difficult scenes much easier to handle between laughs. The film itself, directed by Natasha Kermani, is a grim exploration of isolation and trauma set against the backdrop of the 15th-century Wars of the Roses.

Turner portrays Anne, a woman living a solitary life on the outskirts of society with her mother-in-law, played by Academy Award winner Marcia Gay Harden. Their quiet existence is shattered when Jago, a man from their past portrayed by Harington, returns from the war and triggers a series of terrifying, supernatural events.

Since the conclusion of Game of Thrones in 2019, both actors have navigated significant shifts in their personal and professional lives. Harington has recently balanced fatherhood with a critically acclaimed run on the fourth season of the banking drama Industry, where he plays the ethically questionable Henry Muck.

Sophie Turner has been equally busy, having recently been confirmed as the new face of Lara Croft for Amazon’s high-profile Tomb Raider series, currently in production under the direction of Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

She also recently starred in the psychological thriller Trust, a role she famously claimed was less harrowing than kissing Harington, despite being covered in actual rats for the production. Off-screen, Turner has remained a staple of the fashion world, frequently appearing as an ambassador for Louis Vuitton at major global events.

The Dreadful marks the first time the two have worked together since the series finale of Game of Thrones nearly seven years ago. While they have both firmly ruled out a return to the world of Westeros—Harington recently gave a definitive “no” to a Jon Snow spin-off—their chemistry in this new genre proves they are ready to leave the Starks behind.
