This Actress Claims Working With Johnny Depp on ‘Blow’ Left Her Hating Him
Johnny Depp’s behavior on set has once again come under scrutiny, as actress Lola Glaudini spoke out about her experience working with the star on the 2001 film Blow. Speaking on the Powerful Truth Angels podcast, the Criminal Minds alum recalled feeling verbally attacked during her first studio film.
Glaudini said she was told by director Ted Demme to laugh loudly at one of Depp’s lines. After the take, she claims Depp approached her, pointed a finger in her face, and shouted, “Who the f*** do you think you are? Shut the f*** up. I’m out here, and I’m trying to f**** say my lines, and you’re f***** pulling focus. You f***** idiot.”
“First day, on the set, I’ve never met him,” she explained. “This was my first studio movie. I’ve just done indies until then. And I have the star who I have idolised, who I am so excited to work with, reamed me in my face. The only thing going through my head was, ‘Don’t cry, don’t cry, don’t cry.’”
Entertainment Weekly reached out to Depp’s team, who denied the claims. A spokesperson said, “Johnny always prioritises good working relationships with cast and crew, and this recounting differs greatly from the recollection of other members on set at the time.” One crew member, Sam Sarker, told Variety he did not hear Depp shout at Glaudini while working in the sound department.
Glaudini also said she felt isolated after filming ended because she had spoken out. She has continued her career successfully, but not everyone who challenged Depp has had the same luck. Gregg Brooks, a location manager who claimed Depp was violent toward him on the set of City of Lies, struggled to find work after taking legal action.
Depp’s long career has included multiple controversies, with reports of arrests and on-set misconduct surfacing over the years. This includes a well-known incident with Kate Moss, though Moss herself has denied claims that Depp pushed her down stairs.
With Depp preparing to return to acting, questions about his behavior continue to circulate. Whether these allegations will affect his career or prompt further discussion remains to be seen.
It’s important to listen to the experiences of cast and crew while also considering multiple perspectives. Hollywood has a history of power imbalances, and stories like Glaudini’s highlight the challenges younger actors can face.
