Kirsten Dunst experienced an unfortunate wardrobe mishap while making her way to a high-profile BAFTA afterparty on Sunday night. The 43-year-old actress was arriving at the private members’ club Oswald’s in London when she realized she had torn the back of her skirt.

Despite the danger of a tear threatening to reveal more than intended, the star handled the situation with professional poise and stayed in high spirits throughout the evening. The actress had spent the earlier part of the night at the Royal Festival Hall supporting her husband, Jesse Plemons, who was nominated for Best Actor.

For the afterparty, she layered a unique pink jacket with dramatic puffed sleeves over her black and white gown, which was unfortunately damaged during the transition from the ceremony to the celebration. She didn’t let the ruined ensemble dampen her mood, however, as she prepared to celebrate with industry peers like Emma Stone and Best Actress winner Jessie Buckley.

Earlier in the evening, the couple put on an affectionate display on the red carpet, showing a united front following Dunst’s recent public defense of Plemons. She had previously voiced her frustration regarding what she perceived as a snub from other major awards bodies earlier in the season.

The parents of two, who have been married since 2022, appeared inseparable as they posed for photographers before the main event began. The ceremony itself was dominated by Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest masterpiece, One Battle After Another, which walked away with six major awards.

After securing a record-breaking fourteen nominations, the film triumphed in categories including Best Film and Best Director. While accepting the night’s top honor, Anderson delivered a spirited speech, remarking that anybody who says movies aren’t any good anymore can piss off because this is just a great f*****g year.

While the night was a victory for Anderson, it provided a significant upset in the Best Actor category. Timothée Chalamet, who many expected to win for his performance in Marty Supreme, was ultimately beaten by Robert Aramayo for his role in I Swear.

This win for the home-grown favorite was one of the biggest surprises of the evening, alongside Jessie Buckley’s anticipated but still emotional win for her performance in Hamnet. Outside of the awards circuit, Kirsten Dunst has been revitalizing her career with a string of intense, critically acclaimed roles.

She recently earned rave reviews for her performance in the dystopian thriller Civil War, and she is currently preparing to reunite with director Ruben Östlund for his upcoming project The Entertainment System Is Down. This new film is described as a social satire set on a long-haul flight and features an ensemble cast including Keanu Reeves and Daniel Brühl.

Jesse Plemons is also navigating a massive career peak, having recently wrapped production on Yorgos Lanthimos’s Bugonia alongside Emma Stone. The sci-fi comedy, which is a remake of a South Korean cult classic, is one of the most anticipated releases of the year.

Additionally, Plemons is set to lead a new limited series for Netflix titled Zero Day, where he will star alongside Robert De Niro in a high-stakes political conspiracy thriller. As the couple continues to balance their busy professional lives with raising their two young sons, Ennis and James, they have become one of Hollywood’s most respected power couples.

Dunst has also hinted at a potential return to more comedic roots in the near future, expressing interest in projects that allow for a lighter tone after several years of heavy dramatic work.
