Here’s What Daniel Radcliffe Said About Replacing Hugh Jackman as Wolverine
Daniel Radcliffe addressed the persistent speculation regarding a potential stint as Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Despite years of fan theories and digital art depicting the actor with adamantium claws, the Harry Potter star has stepped forward to clarify the reality of these rumors.
During a recent conversation with ComicBook.com, Radcliffe explored whether there was ever any substantial progress toward making this fan casting a reality. The actor was quick to dismiss the notion that Marvel had ever formally reached out to him for the iconic role.
He stated that the idea was not something currently in the works and that it was never real. Radcliffe characterized the entire situation as a very flattering internet rumor that he enjoyed seeing, though he noted it was never officially proposed by anybody with any power to make that happen.
While he acknowledged that it would be stupid not to consider a major opportunity like joining the MCU, he expressed a specific hesitation about this particular character. Radcliffe pointed out that following in the footsteps of Hugh Jackman is a daunting task that he isn’t eager to take on.
He explicitly mentioned that being the person who follows Hugh Jackman is not on my bucket list for anything, showing immense respect for the legacy Jackman created. The actor further explained his stance by praising Jackman’s decades-long commitment to the role.
For any character that an actor has made so iconic, Radcliffe said he is happy not to be doing that, and let him keep doing it. This perspective comes as Radcliffe is currently busy promoting his latest venture, the NBC comedy series The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins, which made its debut on February 23.
When the conversation shifted toward the possibility of joining a different superhero franchise, Radcliffe admitted he feels somewhat out of the loop with the current state of cinematic universes.
He joked that he would need to do some catching up before joining a massive production, though he clarified that he is certainly not averse to it. While he wouldn’t rule out a future in a franchise, he noted that he is not necessarily clamoring to be in it.
Reflecting on his time leading the Harry Potter series, Radcliffe noted that having a massive franchise early in his career meant that I got mine out of the way. He credited the success of those films with giving him the financial freedom to do whatever I wanted next in the world of independent film and theater.
Although he remains open to returning to a large-scale franchise at some point, he insisted it won’t happen anytime soon. Aside from his new comedy series, Radcliffe has remained a fixture in the New York theater scene and high-concept cinema.
He recently starred in the film Merrily We Roll Along, a project that captured his interest due to its unique narrative structure. Looking forward, he is rumored to be involved in several independent dramas currently in pre-production, as he continues to favor “weird and cool” scripts over blockbuster offers.
The show he is currently promoting, The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins, stars Radcliffe alongside Tracy Morgan and has been praised for its satirical take on the entertainment and sports industries.
The series follows the chaotic journey of a disgraced filmmaker and a former athlete, highlighting Radcliffe’s knack for character-driven comedy. Meanwhile, the real Wolverine, Hugh Jackman, is still very much in the picture, with recent reports suggesting he will continue to play the character in upcoming Avengers installments slated for this and next year.
