Mindy Kaling delivered a masterclass in modern fashion at the 32nd Actor Awards on Sunday, March 1, marking her triumphant return to the ceremony’s red carpet. The 46-year-old multi-hyphenate star commanded the spotlight at the Shrine Auditorium in a striking, custom ensemble designed by Yara Shoemaker.

Her look offered a sophisticated reimagining of the classic little black dress, featuring a structured velvet peplum bodice that was accented by a bold sheer panel at the waist. The outfit’s most talked-about element was a transparent knitted maxi skirt adorned with delicate rhinestone details that shimmered under the venue’s lights.

Kaling leaned into the night’s theme of reimagining early Hollywood glamour by accessorizing with dramatic black velvet gloves and keeping her hair in a sleek, pin-straight style.

This appearance was particularly special as it was Kaling’s first physical walk down the Actor Awards red carpet in over a decade. While she participated as a presenter during the virtual 2021 ceremony in a vibrant cobalt blue gown, her last in-person attendance was in 2014.

Her return was not just a solo victory but a celebratory reunion with her former The Office co-stars Jenna Fischer, Ellie Kemper, and Angela Kinsey. The Dunder Mifflin alumni took to the stage together to present the award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series.

The prize ultimately went to the cast of the Apple TV+ satirical comedy The Studio, a show that features Kaling’s longtime collaborator Ike Barinholtz. The reunion provided a nostalgic highlight for the evening, as the four women joked about their shared history and the endurance required for long-running network sitcoms.

While the awards ceremony celebrated her past, Kaling’s current professional slate is busier than ever as she continues to expand her television empire. She is currently preparing for the premiere of the second season of her Netflix sports comedy Running Point, which is officially set to return on April 23.

The show stars Kate Hudson as a woman thrust into the high-stakes world of professional basketball, with Ray Romano recently joining the cast for the new installment. In addition to her work on Netflix, Kaling recently finished production on a new series for Hulu titled Not Suitable for Work.

The project, which was filmed in New York City through late 2025, follows a group of ambitious, work-obsessed twenty-somethings navigating the glamor and grit of Manhattan’s Murray Hill neighborhood.

The ensemble cast features rising stars like Ella Hunt and Avantika, with Kaling serving as the primary creative force behind the camera. She also remains a staple in the world of adult animation, having recently seen the release of the second season and a special for her Max series, Velma.

Between her various writing and executive producing duties, Kaling has been honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, reflecting her transition from a breakout writer to a global media mogul. As she balances her demanding career with her role as a mother of two, her presence at the Actor Awards served as a reminder of her lasting impact on the industry.
