Justin Timberlake Seeks Court Order To Block Release of Drunk Driving Video
Justin Timberlake is taking a firm legal stand to prevent the public from viewing the body camera footage of his 2024 arrest. The 45-year-old singer recently filed a petition in the Suffolk County Supreme Court, arguing that the release of the video would constitute a significant invasion of his privacy.
The legal action stems from an incident on June 18, 2024, when Timberlake was stopped by police in Sag Harbor after leaving the American Hotel. While he was initially hit with a DWI charge, the case concluded in September 2024 with a plea deal for a lesser offense of driving while impaired.
In his latest court filing, Timberlake’s legal team argued that making the footage available to the public would result in severe and irreparable harm to his reputation. They claimed the move would subject him to unnecessary public ridicule and harassment without serving any meaningful public interest.
His attorneys, Edward Burke Jr. and Michael J. Del Piano, specifically noted that the video contains highly personal details that are unrelated to the public’s right to oversee government operations. They alleged that the footage shows intimate moments and information about his family and medical history that should remain confidential.
The petition was triggered after the Sag Harbor Village Police Department received requests for the footage under the Freedom of Information Law (FOIL). Timberlake is now seeking an emergency stay to block these requests and a court order that would permanently prohibit the dissemination of the video without a judge’s approval.
At the time of his arrest, police reported that Timberlake’s eyes were bloodshot and glassy and that he had refused to take a chemical test multiple times. The singer maintained that he had consumed only one martini before attempting to follow his friends home in his BMW.
Following his plea deal last year, the singer was ordered to pay a fine and complete 25 hours of community service. He was also required to issue a public service announcement regarding the dangers of impaired driving, a condition he fulfilled as part of his sentencing.
Despite the ongoing legal complexities surrounding his past arrest, Timberlake has maintained a high-energy professional schedule. He concluded his massive Forget Tomorrow World Tour, which traveled through major international cities following the release of his sixth studio album, Everything I Thought It Was.
The tour, known for its high-tech production and a signature floating stage, has been a commercial success, reaffirming his status as a premier global entertainer. In addition to his music career, Timberlake is also looking toward future film projects.
