Kate Hudson provided one of the most memorable moments of the 32nd Actor Awards with a humorous opening monologue, though it was her brother Oliver Hudson whose silent commentary stole the show.

The ceremony, which has transitioned from its previous branding as the SAG Awards, features stars sharing personal career reflections that culminate in the phrase I am an actor.

During her turn at the microphone, Hudson reflected on a childhood defined by high energy and occasional rebellion. She entertained the crowd at Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium by recounting how she was often boy crazy, too loud, and frequently got in trouble for daydreaming.

Seated directly behind her, Oliver Hudson offered a masterclass in sibling physical comedy. As Kate confessed to being sent home for inappropriate dress, Oliver could be seen grimacing and nodding in frantic agreement, essentially verifying her childhood antics for the star-studded audience.

Kate eventually brought the house down with her concluding thought, noting that despite her youthful reputation for being disruptive, it turns out these are all very marketable skills in the world of professional acting. Oliver broke his mock disgust to join the room in a roar of laughter and applause for his sister.

The brother-sister duo had actually arrived together as a last-minute arrangement. Kate explained on the red carpet that her fiancé, Danny Fujikawa, had become crazy sick just before the event, prompting her to call her brother with an urgent request to be her date.

This candid reflection on her past aligns with Kate’s recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, where she shared excerpts from her childhood journals. She admitted that she was originally hesitant to bring the notebooks, confessing that when she first looked back at them, she thought, I can’t read these. I can’t read them.

The diaries revealed a young girl with an almost cinematic level of emotional intensity. Hudson joked that her early writings made her seem like a little girl writing Sabrina Carpenter songs, filled with dramatic musings on romantic feelings that she felt she likely shouldn’t know about at that age.

She even treated the late-night audience to a reading of a song she wrote at age 12, which featured lyrics about the touch of a hand and the whimper of a kiss. She paused mid-reading to clarify that she hadn’t kissed anyone at the time and was essentially imagining the drama of it all.

Kate Hudson has been enjoying a significant professional resurgence lately, particularly following her acclaimed performance in the biographical drama Song Sung Blue. In the film, which was released in late 2025, she stars alongside Hugh Jackman as a member of a husband-and-wife Neil Diamond tribute band.

The actress is also preparing for the highly anticipated return of her Netflix comedy series Running Point, which is scheduled to premiere its second season on April 23. Interestingly, Oliver let it slip during their recent awards night that he filmed a cameo for the upcoming season, despite it being a supposed secret.

Both siblings continue to be celebrated for their genuine and often hilarious public relationship, which frequently plays out in front of their mother, Hollywood icon Goldie Hawn. Whether they are sharing the red carpet or roasting each other on social media, the Hudson duo remains one of the industry’s favorite family acts.
