Robert Downey Jr. officially christened Disney’s newest cruise ship, the Disney Adventure, in a lively ceremony that doubled as a sneak peek at the ship’s seven themed areas. The actor, known for his iconic role as Tony Stark in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, joked with the crowd, “All right! How are we? Well never let it be said, I don’t know how to make an entrance, right?” before praising the Imagineering team.

“I can tell you, Adventure is the perfect name for what they’ve created. It’s absolutely massive. Gargantuan,” he added.

The event wasn’t just about the ship—Downey also reunited with Spider-Man during the festivities. On meeting him, the web-slinger quipped, “You remind me so much of Tony Stark,” delighting fans of the Marvel franchise.

As the godparent of the Disney Adventure, RDJ performed the ceremonial blessing of the ship. “I christened the Disney Adventure. May God bless this ship, and all who sail upon her,” he declared, bringing the ceremony to a thrilling close. Disney executives Josh D’Amaro and Joe Schott were on hand to witness the moment, with Downey teasing a few attractions onboard, recommending the Iron Cycle Coaster for adventurous guests.

The Disney Adventure introduces guests to seven immersive zones designed to delight families and Marvel fans alike. Disney Discovery Reef brings beloved aquatic characters to life, while Disney Imagination Garden features storybook-inspired topiaries of Sorcerer’s Apprentice Mickey Mouse.

Marvel Landing, a first for the cruise line, offers Avengers-themed attractions and a sundeck with an infinity pool. Other areas include San Fransokyo Street from Big Hero 6, Town Square filled with cafes and shops, Toy Story Place with its bright, twisting slides, and Wayfinder Bay, a serene pool area with plush seating and scenic views.

The ship is set to welcome its first guests on a preview sailing, followed by the official Maiden Voyage departing from Singapore on March 10. Fans can expect a mix of Disney magic, Marvel excitement, and family-friendly adventure across the seven themed areas.

Having Robert Downey Jr. lead the christening adds a perfect mix of humor and star power, while the ship itself promises an impressive blend of storytelling and thrills. I’m particularly excited about Marvel Landing, it feels like a mini superhero playground at sea. What do you think about the Disney Adventure and RDJ’s role in its launch?
