Superstar Britney Spears was taken into custody in Ventura County, California, on Wednesday evening following a traffic stop. Law enforcement officials report that the 44-year-old singer was apprehended by the California Highway Patrol at approximately 9:30 PM on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Records from the sheriff’s department indicate that Spears was officially processed and booked at 3:02 AM on Thursday. She was held for several hours before being granted a cite-and-release, eventually leaving the facility at around 6:00 AM.

This latest interaction with the law follows a significant legal win for the entertainer earlier this week. A judge recently issued a permanent restraining order on her behalf against a 51-year-old man from Louisiana.

The individual had reportedly been targeting her with disturbing social media posts since 2013 and was previously arrested for trespassing at her residence in 2025. The new court order, which remains in effect until 2030, requires the man to stay at least 100 yards away from the star at all times.

Spears has navigated high-profile legal challenges in the past, most notably during the mid-2000s. In 2007, she was embroiled in a case involving an alleged hit-and-run with a parked vehicle in Los Angeles, though those misdemeanor charges were dismissed after she compensated the car’s owner.

The singer has a court date scheduled for May 4 at the Ventura County Superior Court to address the current DUI citation. Her social media presence, which often serves as her primary connection to fans, was deactivated shortly after the incident went public.

In more positive news, Spears recently reached a landmark financial milestone by selling the rights to her extensive music catalog to Primary Wave. The deal, reportedly valued at $200 million, solidifies her financial independence following the 2021 termination of her long-standing conservatorship.

While she has distanced herself from the idea of a traditional music comeback, she has teased a mysterious new project. She also recently hinted at a desire to perform internationally in the United Kingdom or Australia, though she famously vowed never to perform in the U.S. again.

On the cinematic front, a film adaptation based on her bestselling 2023 memoir, The Woman in Me, is currently in early development at Universal Pictures. The project has Wicked director Jon M. Chu attached to helm the production, with Spears expected to be closely involved in the creative process.

Casting rumors have already begun to swirl, with fans suggesting names like Ariana Grande and Sabrina Carpenter for the lead role. However, the production is still in the early stages, and a release date is not expected until at least 2027 or 2028.

Aside from her professional ventures, Spears continues to focus on her personal healing and her relationship with her two sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James. She has often spoken about using dance and creative expression as a way to navigate the complexities of her past and her newfound freedom.
