‘Peaky Blinders’ 1950s Sequel Gets a Major Production Reveal
Filming has officially started on the next chapter of the Peaky Blinders story, a 1950s-set sequel series following the Shelby family. Production began this week in Stoke-on-Trent, with crews from Kudos, the company behind shows like This Town and SAS Rogue Heroes, taking over the Queen’s Theatre in Burslem for the first days of shooting.
The initial filming took place inside the theater on March 4, using its vintage interior to reflect the 1950s period. On March 5, production moved to nearby streets, where period cars and set dressing recreated post-war Birmingham. Local residents got a rare glimpse of the series in action, which has been kept mostly under wraps.
This new series moves the story forward to 1953, after the events of the upcoming Peaky Blinders movie, The Immortal Man, which is set during WWII and premieres on Netflix on March 20, 2026. The series will focus on the next generation of Shelbys as they navigate Birmingham’s post-war reconstruction. According to production listings, the storyline centers on the city rising from the Blitz and the fierce competition over rebuilding projects, with the Shelby family at the heart of the drama.
Fans can expect two six-episode seasons, currently filming, with the first season likely arriving on Netflix sometime in mid-to-late 2027. From early photos, some of the new cast members have been identified, including Cal O’Driscoll, Fintan Shevlin, and Jacob Wright. Most of the larger studio work will be done at Digbeth Loc. Studios in Birmingham.
Stoke-on-Trent has long been a favorite location for Steven Knight, the series creator, with parts of the original show also filmed in Burslem at the Queen’s Theatre and Middleport Pottery. The new project promises to maintain the same gritty, atmospheric feel fans have come to expect while exploring a new era for the Shelbys.
With the movie acting as a bridge to the 1950s storyline, viewers will soon see how the Shelby legacy continues in a city rebuilding from the ashes of war.
This sequel series looks set to bring fresh energy to the Peaky Blinders universe while honoring its roots. The focus on younger Shelbys navigating a changing Birmingham could offer an exciting mix of new drama and familiar intrigue. What do you think about this next chapter of the Shelby saga?
