Margaret Qualley is making waves again with a throwback photo from the set of her 2024 film, The Substance. The image quickly drew attention for the revealing costume she wore as her character, Sue, during a key moment in the story. Fans noticed how eye-catching the outfit was, though production notes confirmed that the look relied on prosthetics designed by Pierre-Olivier Persin rather than being entirely real.

Qualley has talked in the past about her close on-screen connection with co-star Demi Moore. “I guess that’s why you can say we have some sort of connection,” she said in an interview.

She explained that their bond was built on trust and openness, which made filming the movie’s challenging scenes easier. Moore agreed, noting that “I think I’m so lucky to be living in a time when so many of those standards are being broken down and reinvented,” referring to the movie’s take on beauty and aging in Hollywood.

The Substance was a major hit when it was released. Directed by Coralie Fargeat, the film also starred Dennis Quaid and earned an Oscar in 2025 for its prosthetic makeup and hair design. The movie’s bold commentary on youth and age in the entertainment industry helped it succeed with both critics and audiences, and it also earned Qualley a Golden Globe nomination.

Since then, Qualley has stayed busy with several high-profile projects. She appeared in the black comedy thriller How to Make a Killing alongside Glen Powell and is set to star in the sequel Happy Gilmore 2 as the character Sally. She is also filming the sci-fi drama The Dog Stars, directed by Ridley Scott and featuring Jacob Elordi and Josh Brolin.

Outside of acting, Qualley has collaborated with her husband, musician Jack Antonoff, appearing in music videos for his band Bleachers. She also graced the cover of Vanity Fair in March 2026, highlighting her growing influence in both film and fashion.

Reflecting on The Substance, Qualley emphasized the importance of authenticity in her work. “Our chemistry allowed us to be really open and authentic on screen,” she said, showing her commitment to taking on daring roles that challenge her as an actress.

Qualley’s throwback photo is a reminder of the bold choices that have shaped her career so far. Do you think The Substance was her most daring performance yet, or are you more excited about her upcoming projects with Ridley Scott? Share your thoughts in the comments.
