Bob Weir

The Grateful Dead cofounder and guitarist died on January 10 at 78. Weir, who had been diagnosed with cancer, died as a result of underlying lung issues, according to a family statement. He remained one of the band’s most recognizable voices for decades after its formation.

Jesse Jackson

The civil rights icon and two-time presidential candidate died on February 17 at 84. Jackson had been hospitalized in November 2025 after a battle with progressive supranuclear palsy, a condition similar to Parkinson’s disease, and died peacefully surrounded by family. He had worked closely with Martin Luther King Jr. before founding Operation PUSH and the National Rainbow Coalition, which later merged into the Rainbow PUSH Coalition.

Catherine O’Hara

The ‘Home Alone’ and ‘Schitt’s Creek’ star died on January 30 at 71. Her cause of death was a blood clot in the lungs that led to a heart attack, and she also had rectal cancer. She won an Emmy and a Golden Globe for her work in ‘Schitt’s Creek’ in 2020.

James Van Der Beek

The actor known for playing the title role in ‘Dawson’s Creek’ died on February 11 at 48. His wife Kimberley announced his death following his years long experience with colorectal cancer. He was also known for ‘Varsity Blues’ and a fictionalized version of himself on ‘Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23.’

Robert Duvall

The seven time Oscar nominee died on February 15 at 95. His cause of death was not disclosed, but his wife confirmed he died peacefully at home. He won Best Actor in 1984 for ‘Tender Mercies’ and appeared in the first two ‘Godfather’ films, ‘Colors,’ and ‘Days of Thunder.’

Eric Dane

The ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ and ‘Euphoria’ actor died on February 19 at 53. He died of complications related to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, having revealed his diagnosis in April 2025. He battled through the disease to film his final scenes as Cal Jacobs for ‘Euphoria’ season 3.

Chuck Norris

The martial artist and action star died on March 19, nine days after turning 86. Norris got his first big break in 1972 opposite Bruce Lee in ‘The Way of the Dragon,’ and later starred in films including ‘Breaker! Breaker!’ and ‘An Eye for an Eye.’ His cause of death has not been confirmed.

Nicholas Brendon

The ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ actor died on March 20 at 54. According to an autopsy report, he died from heart disease caused by blocked arteries and high blood pressure, and he also had pneumonia. He had suffered a heart attack in 2023 and was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect, along with cauda equina syndrome that led to several spinal surgeries.

Ted Turner

The media mogul died on May 6 at 87. A cause of death was not announced, but his website said he died after a long battle with Lewy body dementia. Turner was responsible for CNN, TBS, TNT, World Championship Wrestling, Cartoon Network, and Turner Classic Movies.

Oliver Tree

The alternative pop musician and internet personality died on June 14 at 32. Tree, known for the track ‘Miss You,’ was among six people killed when two helicopters collided over Rio de Janeiro.

Daveigh Chase

Kaylee Hottle

The ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ actor died on July 21 at 18. Her father, Joshua Hottle, said that Kaylee died after a serious car crash. Her work in ‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire’ earned her a Saturn Award nomination for Best Performance by a Younger Actor.

Vincent Pastore

The ‘Sopranos’ actor died on August 1 at 80. He is without a doubt best remembered as Salvatore “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero on HBO’s iconic series.

Hayden Panettiere

The ‘Heroes’ and ‘Scream’ actor died on August 16 at 36. She was best known for starring in ‘Nashville’ and ‘Heroes,’ with film credits including ‘Remember the Titans,’ ‘Ice Princess,’ and two ‘Scream’ movies. Her cause of death has not been announced.

Frank Beard

The ZZ Top drummer died on August 18 at 77. He spent 56 years as the band’s drummer, and while a cause of death was not announced, his publicist said he was receiving hospice care.

Dolly Parton

The Queen of Country died on August 25 at 80. She was surrounded by loved ones while receiving medical care at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville, her representatives said. Parton won 11 Grammys and three Emmys while being nominated for two Oscars, six Golden Globes, and a Tony, and remained known for hits including “Jolene” and “9 to 5.”

Tim Curry

The ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’ star died on August 25 at 80.
