Steve Carell continues to prove why he is one of Hollywood’s most beloved actors. Even more than two decades after his breakout role on The Office, the 63-year-old star remains as charismatic and relatable as ever. Fans have been quick to notice, with many commenting online that he hasn’t aged a day since playing Michael Scott.

In a recent feature for L’Officiel Hommes Italia, Carell spoke about his life off-screen. He enjoys simple pleasures like spending time with his wife Nancy, traveling, and even doing household chores. “I could spend hours raking leaves,” he shared. Carell grew up in Concord, Massachusetts, and after studying history and playing hockey at Denison University, he was encouraged by friends to try theater in Chicago. That decision would set him on the path to comedy stardom, starting with improv at The Second City in the early 1990s.

His career took off with Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy in 2004, and he quickly became a sought-after actor. Carell’s first lead role in The 40-Year-Old Virgin in 2005 cemented his status, and later that year he began portraying Michael Scott in The Office, a role that would define his career. “From the start, I knew it could be something special,” Carell said. He reflected that while the show was popular during its run, it didn’t become a cultural phenomenon until after it ended.

Beyond comedy, Carell has taken on dramatic roles in films like Little Miss Sunshine, Foxcatcher, and The Big Short. In his upcoming HBO Max series Rooster, he plays a divorced writer who drops everything to support his university professor daughter when his personal life falls apart. “I bring a lot of my relationship with my daughter into this role,” Carell said, adding that he even gave her a job as a production assistant on the series. “Raising my kids is the best part of my life. Nothing else compares.”

Carell credits his off-screen life for keeping him grounded. He enjoys sports, spending quiet time with family, and traveling with his wife now that their children, Annie and John, are grown. On choosing roles, Carell said he looks for stories that feel real. “If the relationships and characters have authenticity, then it’s much more fun to perform. It’s about human behavior, not just people saying funny things.”

He also reflected on the characters that left the strongest mark on him, including Michael Scott and John du Pont in Foxcatcher. “Michael Scott is unforgettable because he’s annoying at times but genuinely good at heart. John du Pont fascinated me, but I could never fully understand him despite all the research.”

Fans have taken to social media to marvel at Carell’s timeless appearance. Many point out that even after 21 years, he looks just like he did during the early seasons of The Office. His charm, wit, and approachable personality continue to resonate both on-screen and off.

Carell’s story is a reminder that dedication, authenticity, and love for both family and craft can create a lasting career, and a look that seems almost frozen in time.
