Watch Leonardo DiCaprio’s Wholesome Reaction to Michael B. Jordan Winning His First Oscar for Best Actor
Michael B. Jordan has won the first Oscar of his career, taking home the Best Actor award for his role in the supernatural thriller “Sinners.” Jordan earned the award for playing twin brothers Smoke and Stack in the film set in the early 1900s American South.
It was a big moment for the actor, who was nominated for an Academy Award for the first time. With this win, Jordan becomes the sixth Black man to win the Oscar for Best Actor.
When he walked on stage to accept the award at the Academy Awards, Jordan used his speech to recognize the people who helped open the door for actors like him.
“I stand here because of the people that came before me,” he said.
He then named several legendary actors, including Sidney Poitier, Denzel Washington, Jamie Foxx, Forest Whitaker and Will Smith. Jordan also gave a special mention to Halle Berry, who remains the only Black woman to win the Oscar for Best Actress.
“To be amongst those giants, those greats, amongst my ancestors, amongst my guides… Thank you everybody in this room and everybody at home for supporting me over my career. I feel it. I know you guys want me to do well, and I want to do that because you guys bet on me. So thank you for keeping betting on me.”
The emotional moment continued when Jordan talked about his family sitting in the audience.
“Man, God is good. God is good,” he said. “Momma, what’s up? You know how I feel about my mother. And my father is here. Pops, where you at? My dad came from Ghana to be here.”
Back in the audience, fellow nominee Leonardo DiCaprio showed support as well. After Jordan’s name was announced as the winner, DiCaprio stood up, smiled and gave him a hug, creating a warm moment between the two actors that fans quickly noticed.

The movie became a huge success, earning strong reviews and performing well at the box office with about $370 million worldwide.
Jordan ended his speech by thanking fans who supported the film.
“Everybody at home who supported ‘Sinners’ and went to see the movie once, twice, three, four times… thank you,” he said. “You made this movie what it is.”
