Miley Cyrus recently reflected on her life and career, sharing the challenges she faced as a child star and how she found sobriety. The singer returned to her roots for a special “Hannah Montana” anniversary event, celebrating 20 years since the show first aired. The special will stream on Disney+ on March 24.

Cyrus first gained fame as the star of Disney Channel’s “Hannah Montana,” a show about a teenager living a double life as a pop singer. It quickly became a massive hit, making Cyrus one of the most recognized young stars in the world. The show’s music topped charts, and her 2007 “Best of Both Worlds” tour sold out arenas across North America.

After the show ended, Cyrus reinvented herself. She released hits like “Wrecking Ball” and “Flowers” and became known for taking risks with her image and music. Looking back, she says, “A lot of artists feel like to become the next version of themselves, they have to leave something behind. But I’d rather be more like a gorgeous patchwork blanket…create a mosaic of exactly who I am now — not trashing any of that past but allowing it to come with me.”

Cyrus admits that fame came with challenges. She faced public scrutiny and controversies, including leaked videos and photos that made headlines. She says, “Regret is so in the past and pointless.”

A turning point in her life came during the pandemic when she decided to get sober. She explains, “It’s no surprise that I had my experiences with drugs and alcohol. I was so used to living at a high, and I don’t think I ever learned how to come down from that. Now, through a sober lens, I can have compassion and understanding for myself.” She also credits therapy and EMDR, a type of psychotherapy, for helping her overcome anxiety and stage fright.

Despite her past struggles, Cyrus has found balance in her life. She no longer tours extensively but enjoys performing at special events and private concerts. She has also focused on her personal life, staying close to family and keeping her relationship private. “I get so much of every single thing I want…But then I also get to be Hannah again and have people sobbing because they just saw ‘This Is the Life’ live. I love that I’ve curated my life that way,” she says.

Cyrus emphasized that her journey has been about growth, not rejecting her past. She believes she can honor her younger self while embracing the person she is today. “I think I created a Miley Cyrus persona to protect myself, so I could have the Miley behind closed doors. But as I’ve gotten older, I’ve been able to integrate what I love about all of them into one being.”

Her return to the spotlight with the “Hannah Montana” anniversary special is a way to celebrate both the character and her own journey. She hopes it reminds fans of the connection they shared with her as a child star and the growth she has achieved since then.

From her early days navigating fame, through wild moments and public scrutiny, to finding sobriety and self-acceptance, Cyrus’ story shows how she has taken control of her life and career.

It’s inspiring to see someone openly talk about their struggles and come out stronger. Miley’s honesty about fame, mistakes, and recovery makes her story relatable and empowering. What do you think about her journey and decision to embrace sobriety? Share your thoughts in the comments.
