Shay Mitchell is trading her mysterious past in Rosewood for the sun-drenched shores of Venice Beach. The actress was recently spotted on the set of the highly anticipated Fox revival of Baywatch, where she appeared to be fully immersed in her new life-saving role.
On Wednesday, March 18, the 38-year-old was seen performing stunts that included leaping from a lifeguard tower into the sand. This sighting confirms her active participation in the production, which has officially begun filming in California.
Mitchell is set to appear as a series regular throughout the upcoming season. She portrays a character named Trina, who underwent a massive professional shift before joining the beach crew.

According to Deadline, Trina is a “former lawyer who walked away from a top-tier firm to dedicate herself to lifeguarding full-time. Trina is the sharpest mind on Baywatch. Passionate and dedicated, she tends to follow her heart … even if she often uses her considerable intelligence to second-guess herself.”
The narrative of the new series serves as a continuation of the beloved 1990s franchise. It focuses on a familiar face who has grown up significantly since we last saw him on the coast.
Variety provided a detailed look at the plot: “The wild child Hobie Buchannon we all loved from the original series is now a Baywatch captain, following in the footsteps of his legendary father, Mitch.
Hobie’s world is turned upside down when Charlie, the daughter he never knew, shows up on his doorstep, eager to carry on the Buchannon family legacy and become a Baywatch lifeguard alongside her dad.”
The show also brings back another fan favorite to help bridge the gap between the old and new generations. “OG heartthrob Cody Madison now runs The Shoreline, the unofficially official Baywatch bar-and-grill, and still puts on the red trunks for the occasional shift saving lives. He’s a mentor to and a friend, providing a second home for his fellow lifeguards… and always offering free wings after a big save.”
Beyond the familiar faces, the cast is packed with a mix of established television actors and fresh talent. Stephen Amell takes on the lead role of Captain Hobie Buchannon, moving away from his superhero roots in Arrow.
Joining Mitchell and Amell are several other series regulars, including Jessica Belkin as Charlie and Hassie Harrison as Nat. The ensemble also features Noah Beck as Luke and Brooks Nader as Selene, ensuring a diverse team for the 2026-2027 television season.
