Cate Blanchett (56) Serves Sculpted Glam While Rachel Zegler (24) Risks It All With Braless Red Carpet Moment
A collection of the theater world’s most celebrated figures gathered at Claridges Hotel on Sunday, March 22, to honor the standout achievements of the London stage. The Standard Theatre Awards winners’ dinner served as a high-profile reunion for performers who have dominated the West End over the last year.
Cate Blanchett, 56, was among the evening’s primary honorees, securing the title of Best Actress in a Play for her commanding work in The Seagull. The Australian icon chose a sculptural black velvet bodice for the occasion, paired with a sleek pencil skirt that maintained a focus on timeless elegance.
She completed the aesthetic with pointed heels, standing as a testament to the sophisticated “quiet luxury” trend currently sweeping the gala circuit. Blanchett’s victory comes just weeks after her portrayal of Arkadina at the Barbican earned her a nomination for the upcoming Olivier Awards.

Rachel Zegler also enjoyed a triumphant night, winning the prize for Best Musical Performance for her record-breaking run as Eva Perón in Evita. The 24-year-old star opted for a more dramatic look, appearing in a low-cut lace gown that utilized intricate textures rather than heavy accessories to make a statement.
Her performance at the London Palladium became a cultural phenomenon last year, particularly for the nightly “balcony sessions” that drew massive crowds to the streets of Soho. The event also featured a rare joint appearance by Hayley Atwell and her fiancé, Ned Wolfgang Kelly.
Atwell, who was recognized for her sharp comedic timing in Much Ado About Nothing, wore a shimmering silver gown accented with floral needlework and a caped collar. She was accompanied by Kelly, who looked polished in a classic black suit and a distinctive white shirt paired with a bolo tie.

The couple has famously prioritized their privacy since they were first romantically linked in the summer of 2022. They became parents to their first child in 2024, an event that occurred roughly a year after their engagement in Italy.
Kelly’s proposal in April 2023 was a famously unscripted moment that took place in a uniquely decorated Venetian apartment. He later described the setting on social media as being surrounded by porcelain ducks while a musician played “My Way” on an accordion just outside the window.
Atwell has also reflected on the memory with fondness, noting that the surreal atmosphere of the rental unit made the proposal feel particularly special. “My fiancé was in his pants in the kitchen, and there was an accordion playing outside our window — which was timed perfectly but not planned,” she recalled of the spontaneous event.
Beyond their personal milestones, all three women are currently managing expansive professional schedules for the remainder of the year. Cate Blanchett is preparing to return to the screen in the psychological thriller Sweetsick, while also gearing up for the live-action sequel to How to Train Your Dragon.
She remains a fixture in the London theater community, with plans to lead a new production of Electra/Persona at the National Theatre later this year. Rachel Zegler is currently focused on the promotional cycle for She Gets It From Me, a comedy-drama where she stars alongside Marisa Tomei.
