Throngs of Dancers Take Over New York and LA Streets in Surprise Promo for Michael Jackson Biopic ‘Michael’
The streets of New York and Los Angeles were alive with music and movement this week as coordinated flash mobs took over major crosswalks to promote the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic, Michael.
The surprise performances quickly went viral on social media, with countless videos showing dancers emerging from crowds and taking over the streets during red lights. It’s part of an ambitious marketing campaign for the film, which is directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by three-time Oscar nominee John Logan. The movie is set to premiere worldwide on April 24.

The role of Michael Jackson will be played by Jaafar Jackson, Michael Jackson’s nephew. This will be his major film debut, and he was chosen for his ability to capture his uncle’s unique voice and dance style.
The young actor reportedly spent over two years training with choreographers and vocal coaches to perfect every move. “I practiced until my feet were sore to get every single movement right,” Jackson said about preparing for the role.
His story begins.

The supporting cast is equally notable. Colman Domingo will portray Joe Jackson, the family patriarch, while Nia Long plays Katherine Jackson. Miles Teller takes on the role of Michael’s longtime manager, John Branca. The film spans decades of Michael’s life, from his early days in the Jackson 5 to his rise as a global superstar, with Juliano Krue Valdi playing a young Michael during the Motown years.
In addition to the movie itself, Lionsgate will release a companion soundtrack featuring 13 tracks that cover highlights from Michael’s career, including songs from Bad and Thriller. The production team includes Graham King, known for producing Bohemian Rhapsody, alongside co-executors of the Jackson estate. The film is reported to run over three hours, offering a deep and visually rich look at the singer’s life.
These street performances may be just the start of a creative marketing campaign, but they have succeeded in capturing attention and reminding the world of Michael Jackson’s enduring influence. The mix of live spectacle and cinematic storytelling seems like a perfect way to honor the life of the King of Pop.
The flash mobs were a brilliant way to make fans feel part of the experience before the movie even hits theaters. Jaafar Jackson has big shoes to fill, but the dedication he’s shown in training is impressive. What do you think, can he truly bring Michael to life on the big screen?
