Cillian Murphy is back on our screens as the legendary Tommy Shelby in the new Netflix film, Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man.

While fans are thrilled to see the Birmingham gangster return, the actor himself has a very different feeling about one specific part of the role.

When asked if he actually likes the famous shaved haircut his character wears, Murphy gave a blunt, one-word answer. The Academy Award winner simply said, No.

Despite his own feelings, the actor admits it is quite a shock to see how popular the look has become globally. He mentioned that it is a very humbling experience to see the show become such a huge phenomenon in places like Turkey, Mexico, and Buenos Aires.

Murphy has struggled with the hair style since the very beginning of the series over a decade ago. He previously explained that he only kept the look because it was part of his legal agreement with the show.

The actor said in a statement, I was alarmed by the haircut, but I’m contractually obliged to have it. I’ve gotten more tolerant of it over the years. And it’s become a desirable cut amongst the fashionistas, which is bizarre to me.

Now 49 years old, the Irish star is currently at the peak of his career following his massive success in the movie Oppenheimer. That role earned him an Oscar for Best Actor and made him one of the most respected names in Hollywood today.

In his new movie, Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, the story moves forward to the year 1940 during World War II. Tommy Shelby has to come out of hiding to protect his family and deal with a dangerous Nazi plot involving fake money.

The film features a very impressive cast alongside Murphy, including Saltburn star Barry Keoghan as Tommy’s son, Duke. It also stars famous actors like Tim Roth and Rebecca Ferguson, who play major new characters in the story.

Murphy has been very busy lately, as he also recently starred in the drama Small Things Like These and a project called Steve. He has even been rumored to return for a sequel to his breakout horror film, 28 Days Later, titled 28 Years Later.

While he is constantly working on big projects, Murphy often says he prefers a quiet life at home in Ireland with his wife and two sons. He likes to stay out of the spotlight when he isn’t filming and usually grows his hair out much longer as soon as a project ends.

Fans can now watch the full movie on Netflix to see the final chapter of the Shelby family’s journey. It brings a lot of the original cast back together for one last explosive fight in the streets of Birmingham.
