Gillian Anderson (57) Reveals How Close She Came to Losing The X-Files Role
Gillian Anderson is a huge star who has won awards like the Golden Globe and the Emmy for playing Margaret Thatcher in The Crown.
Even though she has done a lot of great work in shows like Bleak House, most people still think of her as the star of The X-Files. That show started way back in 1993 and lasted for 11 seasons and two big movies. It was the job that made her famous and changed her life forever.
In the show, Gillian played an FBI agent named Dana Scully who worked with David Duchovny’s character, Fox Mulder. While Mulder believed in aliens and conspiracies, Scully was the one who didn’t believe things easily. According to a report from Collider, the show is still a big hit with fans even though it has been around for over thirty years.
Gillian recently talked about how hard it was to get the job while she was speaking at MegaCon Orlando. She said that the audition process was very stressful and she had to read for the part many times. She also realized she was competing against other famous actresses who were also trying to get the role.
So, I would run into Jill Hennessy, who ended up doing Law & Order, and it was Cynthia Nixon. Right? Can you imagine? Right? And there was somebody else who then went on to The Big Bang Theory, Gillian told the crowd.
Even though it was scary to go up against people she knew in the acting world, Gillian ended up winning the role. She said that as soon as she found out she got it, she had to fly to Vancouver on a Saturday to start filming the very first episode.
There is news that a director named Ryan Coogler is working on a new version of The X-Files. Gillian might not be the main star this time, but there is still a small chance she could show up as Scully again later on. If you want to see her in something new, she has a horror movie coming out on August 7 called Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma. In that movie, she stars alongside Hannah Einbinder from the show Hacks.
