This Viral Westeros Map Has ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Fans Obsessed
George R.R. Martin created a very deep world for his books, and a new fan-made map is reminding everyone just how big it really is.
This map of Westeros recently went viral on X, where it got nearly five hundred thousand views. Even though the map was not made by the author himself, people are impressed by how much detail it shows. It includes both the famous families like the Targaryens and the smaller ones that people sometimes forget.
The map is a great tool for fans watching the spin-off show A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. It helps them keep track of many different houses and where they live. Some fans on social media were shocked by how many families exist in this world. One fan said that George R.R. Martin created something amazing. Another person commented that George RR Martin is a genius, and we need to hand it to him for creating all of this. A third fan mentioned that they sometimes forget how big the world is since every single house has its own history and symbols.
The map shows specific places like Ashford Meadow, which is the main spot for the big tournament in the first season. It also shows House Ashford and House Fossoway. Some eagle-eyed fans noticed that there are actually two different Fossoway territories that do not touch each other. One fan asked, It’s interesting (that) the two Fossoway territories don’t border each other. (Does) anyone know the history behind that? This happened because the family split into two halves after a fight during a trial to defend the character Ser Duncan the Tall.
With ‘A KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS’ exploring new parts of Westeros, we may meet minor houses we’ve never seen on screen. So here’s a map detailing the regions the houses hail from. pic.twitter.com/w0I98BUzRI

While the big families like the Baratheons are on the map, the Stark family is mostly missing from this part of the story. They are usually the main characters, but they are only mentioned briefly in these specific books. However, Martin has plans to write more about them in the future. He said, I began writing two at various points in the past year. One is set in Winterfell, and one is set in the Riverlands. One of those stories is called The She-Wolves of Winterfell and will focus on the strong women of the Stark family. This means the show might eventually head north to show the Starks in a different time period.
It is really cool to see how much work goes into a fantasy world like this. Most writers just focus on a few characters, but Martin made sure even the tiny families have a place on the map. It makes the whole story feel more like real history than just a book. When fans care enough to make maps that get half a million views, it shows the series is still a huge deal.
