Blake Lively has been fighting for recognition as a producer on the film It Ends With Us, and a recent letter she sent to the Producers Guild of America (PGA) shows just how much she pushed for it. According to the Daily Mail, Lively’s January 25, 2024, email asked the guild to acknowledge her “off camera” contributions, which she says are the most important work of her twenty-year career.

In the five-page message, Lively explained that she had only recently been granted the official producer title after a year and a half of effort. “I’ve produced every moment of this film, from pre-production, through production, into post, and now into worldwide marketing and release,” she wrote. She added that her contract was updated to reflect the work she put in, and she requested the “great honor” of receiving a PGA tag.

The email included 77 detailed points outlining her contributions. She said she helped rewrite the script to strengthen the lead role, negotiated wardrobe deals to save on costs, and recruited freelance team members for the cast. She described the PGA tag as “the highest honor in film” in her household, which includes her husband, Ryan Reynolds.

This letter became a key piece of evidence in her ongoing legal battle with director Justin Baldoni. Judge Lewis Liman cited it in a recent ruling that dismissed 10 of Lively’s 13 claims, stating that the bullet points demonstrated she acted as an independent contractor rather than an employee.

This distinction means her s**** harassment claims could not continue. Claims related to retaliation and breach of contract, however, are still moving forward, with a trial scheduled for May 18.

Following the ruling, Lively’s legal team said she “looks forward to testifying at trial and continuing to shine a light on this vicious form of online retaliation so that it becomes easier to detect and fight.” Baldoni’s team told Page Six that they were grateful for the court’s careful review of all the evidence.

Lively first filed her complaint against Baldoni in December 2024, seeking at least $161 million over what she called a smear campaign during the film’s promotion. Baldoni responded with a $400 million countersuit, which a judge later dismissed. The case continues to attract attention as the parties prepare for trial.

Lively’s determination to be recognized for her work shows how much behind-the-scenes contributions matter in Hollywood. It’s clear she invested a lot of time and effort into this project. Do you think the PGA should have granted her the tag sooner? Share your thoughts in the comments.
