Walker Scobell Calls Out Death Threats and Explains Why He Is Skipping Prom
Walker Scobell, the young lead of the Disney+ hit Percy Jackson and the Olympians, has been forced to make a difficult personal sacrifice as he navigates the dark side of teenage fame. On Sunday, April 12, the 17-year-old actor announced to his millions of social media followers that he would no longer be attending his school’s prom.
The decision comes after a series of aggressive death threats were directed at teenage girls in his community who were suspected of having any connection to the star. “Just to let everyone know, I will not be attending prom,” Scobell wrote in a candid post on his Instagram Stories.
He urged his fans to cease the harassment of his peers, noting that targeting girls simply for their geographic proximity to him was unfair and dangerous. “Maybe also just stop sending death threats in general. That’s just not cool. Kinda weird, I have to say this,” he added, highlighting the surreal and often toxic nature of modern celebrity culture.

This incident is part of a broader trend of disturbing fan behavior that has affected the show’s young cast. Scobell’s co-star, Aryan Simhadri, who portrays the satyr Grover Underwood, recently recounted an unsettling public encounter with a large group of intoxicated fans. Simhadri described how one individual inappropriately touched him by reaching into his back pocket, an experience that left him deeply uncomfortable.
Despite these challenges, the cast remains focused on the production of the highly successful mythological series. The show’s popularity has led to an accelerated production schedule, with the third season wrapping principal photography on March 13.
This upcoming installment is set to adapt The Titan’s Curse, marking the first time the specific book has been brought to the screen. The new season will introduce several fan-favorite characters, including the goddess Artemis, played by Dafne Keen, and her group of Hunters. Fans can also expect to see Ming-Na Wen as the queen of Olympus, Hera, and Kate McKinnon as Aphrodite.
Outside of his work at Camp Half-Blood, Scobell has been building a diverse film career. He recently starred in the family drama Looking Through Water, where he plays a lead role named Kyle.
Additionally, he has lent his voice to the upcoming animated sequel The Angry Birds Movie 3, which is currently scheduled for a theatrical release on December 23. Between these projects and his duties as a demigod, Scobell remains one of the busiest young actors in Hollywood.
