Jennifer Lopez, 56, Teases Big Rom-Com Comeback With Brand New Movie
Jennifer Lopez is leaning into nostalgia while signaling a bold new direction for her career as she revisits her roots in the romantic comedy genre. In a recent social media update shared on Friday, April 10, the 56-year-old superstar offered fans a rare glimpse into the production of her 2002 hit Maid in Manhattan.
Sharing a series of previously unreleased behind-the-scenes photographs, Lopez paid tribute to her former castmates, including Ralph Fiennes and Stanley Tucci, while also honoring the memory of late stars Bob Hoskins and Natasha Richardson.
The retrospective served as a bridge to her latest project, Office Romance, which she describes as the start of a joyful new chapter for her and her audience. “So many feelings! Such wonderful memories!” she noted in her caption, expressing her excitement about returning to the genre that helped define her cinematic legacy.
“And now with Office Romance, I am back in my RomCom era. It’s OUR Happy Era!!!” she added, framing the upcoming Netflix release as a celebration for her longtime supporters. While Lopez has long been the queen of wholesome romantic narratives, she has clarified that her newest venture will take a much more provocative approach.
During a television appearance, she teased that the film moves away from her traditional “sweet” style in favor of something more irreverent and mature. “It’s not the typical JLo rom-com that you are used to, like the sweet wholesomeness,” she explained, comparing the humor to edgy classics like Knocked Up.
“It’s a little raunchy,” she added, suggesting that this version of her “Happy Era” includes a fair amount of R-rated comedy. Beyond this anticipated summer release, Lopez remains one of the most prolific figures in the entertainment industry.
She is currently preparing for the launch of The Last Mrs. Parrish, a psychological thriller that marks a departure from her comedic work. This follows a busy 2025, where she starred in the film adaptation of Kiss of the Spider-Woman.
Office Romance features an impressive ensemble, starring Brett Goldstein as Lopez’s love interest alongside Tony Hale, Betty Gilpin, and Edward James Olmos. Goldstein also co-wrote the screenplay, bringing his signature wit to a story that Lopez herself produced.
Outside of her film work, the singer has been focusing on her global business ventures and recently expanded her beauty line. As she balances high-stakes thrillers with her return to comedy, Lopez continues to demonstrate a remarkable ability to reinvent herself for a new generation of viewers.
