The first trailer for Practical Magic 2 has been released, and it brings back two familiar faces. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman are once again playing the Owens sisters in the long-awaited sequel. The trailer dropped on April 20.

The film continues the story of Sally and Gillian Owens, characters first introduced in the 1998 original. In this new chapter, their quiet life is disrupted when something new arrives in their town, setting off changes that pull them back into the world of magic.

The trailer itself is brief and keeps most of the story hidden. Warner Bros. teased the film with a simple line: “The magic returns.” The tone leans heavily on nostalgia, while also hinting at a new direction for the story.

Nicole Kidman first confirmed the sequel in 2024, speaking about how both she and Bullock felt it was the right time to revisit the characters. Production teams involved in the film later shared that the strong connection fans still have with the original movie helped inspire the continuation of the story. As reported by People, they said, “The enduring affection for these characters has been our inspiration to deliver the next installment in the Owens’ story to new fans, and those who’ve been with us since the beginning.”

Bullock and Kidman also appeared at CinemaCon, where they teased the project again and told fans, “The witches are back!”

The sequel also introduces new characters into the story. Joey King plays Sally’s daughter, while Maisie Williams, Xolo Maridueña, and Solly McLeod join the cast in new roles. Returning from the original film are Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest, who once again play the aunts who helped raise the Owens sisters.

Behind the scenes, Akiva Goldsman and Georgia Pritchett worked on the script, while Bullock and Kidman also served as producers. The original 1998 film was based on Alice Hoffman’s novel and focused on the sisters dealing with family magic, love, and loss.

After the trailer release, fans quickly reacted on social media. Many commented on how both Bullock and Kidman still look “ageless,” with users saying they appear just as fresh and iconic as they did decades ago. The excitement around their return has been a major talking point online.
