HBO has confirmed the official release date for “House of the Dragon” season 3. The show will return on June 21 at 9 p.m. ET, with episodes also available to stream on HBO Max at the same time, according to HBO.

The new season will have eight episodes. Each episode will be released weekly, and the season finale is planned for August 9. HBO had already shared that the series would arrive in June, but the exact date was not confirmed until now. Along with the announcement, a new teaser trailer was also released.

“House of the Dragon” is a prequel to “Game of Thrones” and is based on George R.R. Martin’s book “Fire & Blood.” The story takes place around 200 years before the events of the original series. It focuses on the Targaryen family and a major civil war known as the Dance of Dragons.

The show features a large cast, including Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Steve Toussaint, Rhys Ifans, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, Harry Collett, and many others. The ensemble has grown across the seasons as the story has expanded.

The series was created by Ryan Condal and George R.R. Martin. Both of them are executive producers, and Condal also works as the showrunner. Other executive producers include Sara Hess, Melissa Bernstein, Kevin de la Noy, Vince Gerardis, David Hancock, and Philippa Goslett.

This show is part of a bigger universe built around “Game of Thrones.” HBO is also working on other related projects. One of them is “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” another prequel series. A film project based on Aegon’s Conquest is also in development at Warner Bros.

It is clear HBO is still fully committed to the “Game of Thrones” world. Releasing more shows and even planning films shows they believe the universe still has strong interest from viewers. The new season of “House of the Dragon” could either strengthen that interest or test how far fans are willing to stay in this world.
