Roger Sweet, the toy designer credited with helping create He-Man from “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe,” has died at the age of 91. The news was reported by TMZ, with information shared through his wife, Marlene.

Sweet passed away at a care facility after dealing with dementia and other serious health issues. According to his wife, his death happened peacefully in the morning.

In recent months, his health had declined sharply. Marlene explained that it began after a serious fall while he was out walking alone. He was later unable to recall what happened. Doctors discovered brain injuries and bleeding, which led to an ICU stay. After that, he was moved into long-term memory care.

The cost of his care became very high, and the family later set up a fundraising campaign to help with expenses. The GoFundMe page received strong support from fans of He-Man, many of whom grew up watching or playing with the character. The fundraiser went beyond its original goal and raised nearly 94,000 dollars in total. The Mattel Foundation also gave financial support during this time.

Sweet spent part of his career at Mattel during the 1970s and 1980s. He is widely recognized for helping shape the early ideas that led to He-Man, which later became a major character in the animated series “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.” The franchise became very popular and remains well known today.

His passing comes at a time when the He-Man brand is still active. A new live-action “Masters of the Universe” film from Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel is scheduled for release in the summer. The timing has added attention to his legacy, as the character he helped create is returning to the big screen.

Marlene also said she has been trying to contact the film’s production team in hopes that they will dedicate the movie to him.

Sweet’s wife believes his work will continue to live on through generations of fans. The character He-Man is still widely recognized, especially for the famous line, “I have the power!”

Roger Sweet’s impact on pop culture is much bigger than many people realize. He helped create a character that lasted for decades and is still being used in new projects today. That is a rare legacy in entertainment and toys. What do you think about his contribution and the lasting popularity of He-Man? Share your thoughts in the comments .
