‘Vought Rising’ Just Gave Fans Their First Real Look at Torpedo, and the Retro Tease Is Absolutely Perfect
The world of ‘The Boys‘ has never really been content to stay in one place for long, and Prime Video is making sure that stays true even as the mothership winds down. With ‘The Boys’ currently airing its fifth and final season, the franchise is already steering audiences toward the next chapter, a prequel series called ‘Vought Rising’ that promises to drag viewers back into the ugliest corners of Vought’s earliest days.
‘Vought Rising’ is set in the 1950s and has been described by its creators as a twisted murder mystery centered on the origins of Vought, the early exploits of Soldier Boy, and the scheming of the Supe known to fans as Stormfront, who goes by Clara Vought in this earlier era. Jensen Ackles and Aya Cash return to lead the series, reprising their roles as Soldier Boy and Stormfront respectively, with Paul Grellong serving as showrunner and executive producer alongside ‘The Boys’ creator Eric Kripke.
Now, the show has delivered its first proper tease of one of its most intriguing new additions. The X account The Boys Out of Context Clips shared images of Will Hochman as Torpedo, including a striking in-universe promotional poster styled like a mid-century Navy adventure film, complete with the name Torpedo emblazoned across it in bold retro lettering. The character had already been confirmed as a major new figure in the show, with Hochman’s casting first announced alongside other newcomers including Elizabeth Posey as Private Angel and Mason Dye as Bombsight.
Details about Torpedo remain closely guarded, but early information connected to the franchise suggests the character is tied to the earliest version of Compound V and may be among the first experimental supes created before a more stable version of the serum existed. The vintage military aesthetic on full display in the tease is not accidental.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Kripke explained the design thinking behind the earliest Vought supes, noting that the first suits were rooted in military tradition and would naturally resemble something from the Air Force, Navy, or Army, since the characters emerging from that world would carry that identity into their supe personas.
Earlier promotional material had already unveiled the super suits for four of the show’s heroes, including Ackles as Soldier Boy, Dye as Bombsight, Hochman as Torpedo, and Posey as Private Angel. The Torpedo tease slots neatly into that established visual language, confirming the show is leaning hard into its period setting with an eye for authentic mid-century detail.
Filming for ‘Vought Rising’ commenced in Toronto in August 2025 and wrapped in March 2026, putting the series on track for a 2027 debut on Prime Video. Fans across social media have already started building theories about Torpedo’s place in the story, with some believing he could become one of the few genuinely heroic characters in the franchise and others expecting the show to eventually unravel him as another morally compromised supe caught in Vought’s machinery.
With ‘The Boys’ heading toward its conclusion and ‘Gen V’ canceled after two seasons, ‘Vought Rising’ now carries the full weight of the franchise’s future. The Torpedo reveal is a small but effective piece of world-building that confirms ‘Vought Rising’ understands the assignment. Whether Hochman’s character ends up being a rare bright spot in Vought’s blood-soaked history or just another tragic experiment is the question fans should be arguing about right now.
