Netflix Has a New Crime Drama Arriving June 19 That’s Being Compared to ‘White Lotus’

Spain has quietly become one of Netflix’s most reliable pipelines for gripping, sun-soaked suspense. From the period intrigue of ‘Cable Girls’ to the chilling real-crime drama of ‘The Asunta Case’, the country’s productions have built a reputation for blending gorgeous visuals with genuinely unsettling mysteries. The latest entry in that tradition is arriving just in time for summer, and it has the internet already buzzing with a very familiar comparison.

‘Oasis’ is set at an exclusive luxury resort reserved for the ultra-wealthy, where everything from private beaches to VIP facilities promises the perfect holiday escape. But when police storm the resort to investigate a mysterious disappearance, the idyllic setting fractures instantly, and in such an exclusive place, everyone is a suspect and no one can leave until the culprit is found.

It is that precise setup, wealth locked inside a paradise slowly poisoned by secrets and scandal, that has critics and viewers drawing an immediate line to ‘The White Lotus’. Much like Mike White’s HBO hit, ‘Oasis’ features a cast split between resort guests and staff, each carrying hidden agendas that complicate the investigation at every turn. Producers have described the series as a coming-of-age mystery where friendship, first loves, difficult choices, and hidden truths drive the narrative as much as the central investigation.

The series hails from Bambú Producciones, the powerhouse studio behind hits like ‘Cable Girls’, ‘High Seas’, and ‘The Asunta Case’. Series producer Ramón Campos shared his personal motivation for the project, saying he wanted to make a series for his teenage daughters, a story that speaks to what they are experiencing right now, including friendships, secrets, doubts, and those first real decisions that begin to define who you are.

Filming took place in Tenerife, a small island off the west coast of Morocco, lending the series the kind of sun-drenched, cinematic atmosphere that feels almost too beautiful for the darkness unfolding within it. Leading the cast are Ana Garcés, known for ‘The Promise’, Tomy Aguilera from ‘Welcome to Eden’, and Victoria Kantch, alongside a deep ensemble that brings the resort’s guests and staff to life. Seasoned Spanish actors including Unax Ugalde, Alicia Borrachero, Mercedes Sampietro, Verónica Sánchez, and ‘Money Heist’ fan-favorite Paco Tous also appear in special roles throughout the series.

As ‘The White Lotus’ has grown into a cultural phenomenon, more and more streaming services have been searching for a suitable alternative, and Netflix appears to have a strong contender on its hands. Netflix itself categorizes ‘Oasis’ across multiple tones and genres, describing it as soapy, suspenseful, and a proper nightmare vacation, suggesting the platform is leaning hard into that comparison rather than shying away from it.

With its pedigree production team, a cast steeped in Spanish screen talent, and a premise designed to keep viewers guessing until the very last episode, ‘Oasis’ arrives on Netflix on June 19 with real expectations to meet. Whether it can fully scratch that ‘White Lotus’ itch or carve out an identity entirely its own is the question fans will be debating all summer long.
