‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’ Season 2 Is Done and Ready to Swing Onto Disney+ This Fall
Marvel Animation’s beloved animated series has been quietly building one of the most passionate fan bases in the streaming space since it first debuted on Disney+. The show premiered on January 29, 2025, running a 10-episode first season through February 19, earning positive reviews from critics who praised its action, comedy, nostalgia, and animation style, and even picking up a Children’s and Family Emmy Award for its voice directing. For a show that arrived with relatively little fanfare compared to live-action MCU titles, ‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man‘ made a quietly enormous impression.
The animated series takes place in a universe separate from Tom Holland’s iteration of the character, with plenty of key differences between the two wall crawlers. Rather than Tony Stark mentoring young Peter Parker, this version replaces him with Norman Osborn, voiced by Colman Domingo, the CEO of Oscorp who gives Peter and his friends internships while his true motives remain deeply suspicious. That slow-burn tension between mentor and protégé has been one of the show’s most compelling threads since the very first episode.
Now, the wait for what comes next is nearly over. @cosmic_marvel, citing a Screen Rant report, confirmed that ‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’ Season 2 is fully finished and targeting a Fall 2026 premiere on Disney+. The news was corroborated directly by Marvel’s Head of Television, Animation, Comics and Franchise, Brad Winderbaum, who spoke with Screen Rant’s Liam Crowley at the Tribeca Film Festival and confirmed the season is complete, saying “it is coming. It’s complete,” while noting he was still trying to remember when the official release date would be announced, adding that “there’s a lot coming out this year.”
Winderbaum also stressed that Marvel wants to give the new season a strong moment to shine amid a crowded slate, noting releases like ‘X-Men ’97’ Season 2, ‘VisionQuest’, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’, and ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ all landing in the same window, and that they “want to give it a good place to live and breathe.” In other words, the season is in the can and ready to go, it is simply a matter of finding the right launch window.
When that window finally arrives, fans will have plenty to look forward to. Season 2 is confirmed to introduce the Venom symbiote and Gwen Stacy while also bringing back Charlie Cox’s Daredevil, alongside the returns of Norman and Harry Osborn, villains like Doctor Octopus, Chameleon, and Scorpion, and the further development of Nico Minoru’s magical powers. Winderbaum also teased the emotional payoff ahead, praising Colman Domingo’s performance and saying that “some of the payoffs just start hitting really heavy in season 2, and it’s extremely satisfying.”
Season 2 will be part of Phase Six of the MCU, with a third season already confirmed to be in development as Marvel eyes an annual release cadence for the property going forward. For a series that began its life years ago under the working title ‘Spider-Man: Sophomore Year’, it has come a remarkably long way, and with the finished season sitting ready to go, the web-slinging is clearly far from over.
If you’ve been following Peter Parker’s alternate-universe journey since the beginning, how are you feeling about Venom and Gwen Stacy finally making their way into this corner of the MCU, and which arrival are you more excited to see?
