Paul Bettany’s Vision Trades The Avengers For A Pub Job In First ‘VisionQuest’ Trailer
Marvel fans have spent years wondering what happened to White Vision after he flew off into the unknown at the end of ‘WandaVision.’ That lingering question is finally getting answered, and the timing could not feel more deliberate given how much speculation has built around the character since 2021.
The reveal came courtesy of Disney and Marvel Studios themselves, but it was the entertainment account Culture Crave that put the announcement in front of fans first, sharing the freshly released footage along with the confirmation that the series would premiere on Disney+. That framing set the stage for a flood of reactions across social media within minutes of the post going live.
The first trailer for ‘VisionQuest’ has now officially arrived, and Marvel has confirmed the eight episode series will premiere on Wednesday, October 14, exclusively on Disney+. The show follows the android Vision as he struggles to regain his humanity and memories following the events of ‘WandaVision.’
The footage shows Bettany’s synthezoid working as a bartender while also trying to live alongside his father figure Ultron, once again voiced by James Spader. Vision is shown resurfacing as a humble pub worker, even carving a heart into the bar, before the story pulls him into a trip through his own mind and memories, where he admits he was once an Avenger but no longer feels like a hero.
The cast surrounding Bettany is stacked with familiar MCU voices brought to life, including Emily Hampshire as E.D.I.T.H., Orla Brady as F.R.I.D.A.Y., James D’Arcy as J.A.R.V.I.S., T’nia Miller as Jocasta, and Ruaridh Mollica stepping in as the now grown up Tommy Maximoff. The series marks Bettany’s first live action MCU appearance since ‘WandaVision.’
Bettany has previously opened up about what draws him back to this character again and again. Speaking at Marvel’s New York Comic Con panel and later recounted by ABC News, the actor explained that Vision’s appeal comes from being perpetually unfinished. He said Vision is loved because he exists in a constant process of becoming, always discovering or attempting to discover who he really is, which he called an urgent kind of business for young viewers.
‘VisionQuest’ will close out the trilogy that began with 2021’s ‘WandaVision’ and continued through 2024’s ‘Agatha All Along.’ Bettany’s D23 appearance alongside fellow MCU stars Tom Hiddleston and Robert Downey Jr. has only fueled speculation that the series could tie into the upcoming ‘Avengers Doomsday.’
With Vision now caught somewhere between memory and identity, and Ultron lurking in that same mental space, this trailer raises just as many questions as it answers.
