Adria Arjona Stuns at the ‘Onslaught’ Premiere, Officially Entering Her Action Star Era

Actors who’ve built reputations on emotionally layered dramatic work don’t always make the jump into full-blown action territory smoothly, but every so often a role comes along that feels like the perfect vehicle for that exact transition. Adria Arjona stunned at the ‘Onslaught’ premiere, held at Regal L.A. Live in Los Angeles on August 26, alongside co-stars Dan Stevens, Drew Starkey, and director Adam Wingard. According to Rotten Tomatoes, Arjona plays Celeste, a veteran suffering from PTSD who lives on the fringes of society and is forced to unleash her capacity for violence when a group of genetically enhanced soldiers escape custody and attack her and her daughter.

The A24 action-horror film, directed by Wingard and written alongside longtime collaborator Simon Barrett, follows a rogue squad of genetically engineered super soldiers who break loose in the desert, forcing Celeste to protect her young child by any means necessary. According to Wikipedia, the film also stars Eric Wareheim, Reginald VelJohnson, Michael Biehn, UFC fighter Alex Pereira, and Rebecca Hall, with the ensemble cast bringing a genuinely eclectic mix of talent to Wingard’s genre-blending vision.

Arjona has spoken candidly about how significant this role feels within her broader career trajectory. Speaking to ScreenRant while reflecting on “Onslaught” alongside her other recent and upcoming projects, including “The Thomas Crown Affair” and “Man of Tomorrow,” Arjona said she’s learned that whatever she takes on next needs to be “something that really scares me,” adding that trusting the process and simply jumping in “was probably one of the most liberating experiences of my life.”

That physically demanding approach lines up with Wingard’s broader vision for the film, which he and Barrett previously built together on genre favorites like “You’re Next” and “The Guest.” According to Yahoo, A24 has described “Onslaught” as blending horror, science fiction, and large-scale action into what the studio considers one of its most ambitious thrill rides to date, with the film’s marketing leaning heavily into Arjona’s transformation into a genuinely fierce, hand-to-hand combatant.

Notably, the film’s premiere also drew a high-profile guest in Jason Momoa, who was photographed alongside Arjona on the red carpet, according to Deadline’s gallery of the event. That appearance adds another layer of buzz to a premiere already generating plenty of attention heading into the film’s wide release.

With “Onslaught” set to hit theaters and IMAX screens nationwide on September 4, Arjona’s red carpet moment feels like the perfect capstone to a press cycle that’s positioned her as one of the genre’s most exciting new action leads.
