Marvel movies have a long history of turning throwaway lines into cultural moments, but few phrases have taken over social media quite like the one currently dominating ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘ fan pages. What started as a single line of dialogue has snowballed into memes, TikTok trends, and now, apparently, actual merchandise.

The film has already proven itself a box office juggernaut in its fifth weekend of release, closing in on $900 million domestically and cementing itself as one of the biggest MCU entries in years. But it’s not just the numbers keeping ‘Brand New Day’ in conversation.

According to a promotional image shared by MCU Film News, the movie has revealed a “Big Potato, Small Potato” flip coin, a cinema-exclusive collectible that appears to only be available in select countries. The coin design invites fans to flip between two sides, a big potato and a small potato, playing directly into the film’s now-infamous meme.

The phrase traces back to a scene in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ where Yelena Belova, played by Florence Pugh, brushes off the threats Peter Parker deals with as “small potato stuff,” drawing a contrast with the “big potato stuff” she and the New Avengers supposedly handle. It’s a playful twist on the old idiom “small potatoes,” used to describe something minor or insignificant.

That single exchange has taken on a life of its own since the film’s July 31 release. Fans have flooded TikTok and Instagram with edits pairing the phrase with scenes of Spider-Man taking down major threats, essentially arguing that Belova’s dismissal couldn’t be further from the truth. Variations like “small baby potato stuff” and “big potato brain stuff” have also cropped up across social platforms, keeping the joke evolving well into August.

It’s fitting, then, that Marvel and its cinema partners would lean into the meme with physical merchandise. ‘Brand New Day’ has already rolled out an extensive lineup of collectibles at chains including Cineworld, ODEON, and AMC, from character popcorn toppers to color-changing cups shaped like Spider-Man’s mask. A meme-inspired coin fits right into that pattern of turning viral moments into shelf-ready collectibles.

Whether the “Big Potato, Small Potato” coin ends up as a giveaway, a purchasable item, or a specific format exclusive similar to the film’s other regional promotions remains to be seen, especially given its apparent limited availability. Cinema chains have used similar scarcity tactics throughout the film’s run, offering different bundles and freebies depending on the market and screening format.

The meme’s staying power says a lot about how ‘Brand New Day’ has connected with audiences beyond its box office success. Between Tom Holland’s continued turn as Peter Parker and Pugh’s scene-stealing appearance as Belova, the film has given fans plenty of material to work with, and the internet has clearly taken notice. With the movie still playing in theaters and closing in on the $900 million domestic milestone, it’s unlikely the potato jokes are going away anytime soon.
