Superhero stardom has a funny way of rewriting box office record books, and few actors have felt that shift more dramatically than Tom Holland this year. What started as another busy stretch of Marvel promotion has quietly turned into one of the biggest career milestones an actor can reach.

Holland entered August already sitting comfortably among Hollywood’s top earners, thanks largely to a decade spent swinging through the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Spider-Man. But two very different 2026 releases have now pushed him somewhere almost no other actor his age has ever gone.

Tom Holland is now the third-highest-grossing actor of all time at the worldwide box office, trailing only Zoe Saldaña and Scarlett Johansson. At just 30 years old, that makes him the youngest actor ever to crack the list’s top tier.

The numbers behind that leap are staggering. As of early August, Holland ranked sixth among leading actors with roughly $13.66 billion in career box office, sitting behind Robert Downey Jr. at $14.32 billion, Samuel L. Jackson at $14.61 billion, and Chris Pratt at $15.16 billion. It’s the kind of gap that would normally take years to close.

Instead, it took about two weeks. ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘ and Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey,’ in which Holland plays Telemachus, arrived within days of each other and combined for more than $2.8 billion worldwide almost immediately. ‘Brand New Day’ alone became the fastest-rising blockbuster of the year, and ‘The Odyssey’ added its own massive haul on top of it.

That kind of one-two punch is rare even by superhero-movie standards. ‘Brand New Day’ has since become the highest-grossing movie of 2026, and its box office run shows no signs of slowing down, which means Holland’s new ranking could climb even higher before the year wraps.

Ahead of him now sit only two names, and both belong to actors whose box office dominance has been years in the making. Zoe Saldaña currently holds the top spot thanks to her roles across the ‘Avatar’ franchise and the MCU, having overtaken Scarlett Johansson earlier this year following ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash.’ Johansson, meanwhile, built her own total largely through her long run as Black Widow alongside other blockbuster franchise work.

What makes Holland’s rise especially notable is his age. Saldaña and Johansson built their totals over decades-long careers spanning multiple franchises, while Holland has reached third place at just 30, largely on the strength of a single defining role paired with a couple of well-timed 2026 releases. It’s a reminder of just how much box office weight the Spider-Man franchise alone can carry for an actor’s career.

Whether Holland can eventually challenge Saldaña and Johansson for the top spot remains to be seen, especially with ‘Brand New Day’ still playing in theaters worldwide. For now, though, his place among the genuine box office elite is locked in, and it’s hard to imagine a more fitting reward for a decade spent as one of the MCU’s most reliable draws.

Can Tom Holland become the highest-grossing actor ever?
