First ‘Legend of Zelda’ Movie Trailer Reportedly Dropping Next Week, According to New Report

Video game movie adaptations rarely generate quite the level of anticipation that Nintendo’s live-action leap into Hyrule has managed to build over the past several years. Between casting reveals, early set photos and a steady drip of production updates, fans have spent nearly two years piecing together every scrap of information about the project.

That wait has stretched on considerably longer than most blockbuster promotional cycles typically allow, especially given that principal photography wrapped back in April. With Nintendo scheduled to hold a major presentation this coming Tuesday, speculation has understandably intensified about whether that event might finally deliver the first real look fans have been waiting for.

According to insider DanielRPK, the first trailer for the live-action ‘Legend of Zelda’ movie will reportedly release next week. It’s worth noting upfront that this remains an unconfirmed report rather than an official announcement from Nintendo or Sony Pictures, though the timing lines up closely with the franchise’s previously scheduled Tuesday presentation, making the rumor considerably more plausible than a random guess.

That timing makes sense given how studio marketing campaigns typically operate. Major tentpole films routinely release their first teaser trailer during the early post-production window, using early-cut footage to build awareness while visual effects work is still being finalized, and Sony confirmed the film had officially wrapped production and entered post-production stages during its CinemaCon 2026 presentation earlier this year.

The live-action adaptation was first announced back in November 2023, when Zelda co-creator Shigeru Miyamoto revealed on social media that Nintendo was partnering with Avi Arad and Sony Pictures on the project. Wes Ball, known for directing the “Maze Runner” trilogy and “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” took on directing duties, producing the film alongside Joe Hartwick Jr. through their Oddball Entertainment banner.

Principal photography began in New Zealand back in November 2025 and wrapped roughly five months later in April 2026, giving the production team since then to work through post-production ahead of the film’s theatrical debut. The movie is currently scheduled to hit theaters worldwide on April 30, 2027, following a couple of scheduling adjustments from its originally announced March and May release windows.

Until now, fans have had remarkably little official material to go on, limited mostly to a handful of first-look images shared back in November 2025 that offered brief glimpses of both Link and Zelda in their live-action forms. Leaked set footage has also fueled speculation that “Severance” actress Dichen Lachman may appear as Impa, though neither Nintendo nor Sony has confirmed that casting detail.

Given how sparse official details have remained throughout the production process, any confirmed trailer would represent a significant shift in how much Nintendo and Sony are willing to reveal ahead of the film’s release. That scarcity of concrete information has only made rumors like this one spread more quickly among fans desperate for any indication of what the finished film actually looks like.

If the rumor proves accurate, Tuesday’s Nintendo presentation would mark the first time audiences get an actual look at the franchise’s live-action interpretation, rather than relying solely on still photos and secondhand casting speculation. Given how much scrutiny this adaptation has already faced as a major gamble for Nintendo, that first trailer will likely generate enormous discussion regardless of how it’s ultimately received.
