Jamie Foxx Reveals He Secretly Added 4 Inches to His Boots To Compete With Leonardo Dicaprio

Jamie Foxx has never been shy about revisiting his most memorable film experiences, and his latest trip down memory lane offered fans an unexpectedly honest look at just how intimidated he felt working alongside one of his co-stars for the first time. That candor came during a recent podcast appearance where Foxx opened up about the specific measures he took to level the playing field.

Foxx revealed he secretly added 4 inches to his boots while filming ‘Django Unchained’ because he felt intimidated by Leonardo DiCaprio being taller than him. Speaking on Keke Palmer’s podcast “Baby, This Is Keke Palmer,” Foxx explained that he went to the wardrobe department and told the staffer, “Miss Lady, I need you to put 4 inches in my boots,” according to Business Insider.

Foxx explained that the intimidation set in specifically during rehearsals, once DiCaprio and Samuel L. Jackson eventually joined the production after Foxx had already spent the first six weeks filming alongside co-star Christoph Waltz. Realizing that DiCaprio’s height would put him at a disadvantage during a particular scene, Foxx decided he needed to take matters into his own hands rather than simply accept the height difference.

DiCaprio reportedly stands at 6 feet tall, while Foxx stands at a reported 5 feet 9 inches, a difference that became especially noticeable once the two actors began sharing scenes together. Foxx admitted the gap bothered him enough that he decided the only solution was simply asking wardrobe to boost his height artificially rather than let the disparity play out on screen.

When the wardrobe staffer asked why he needed the extra height, Foxx kept his explanation deliberately vague, telling her not to worry about it and simply reiterating that he needed the 4 inches added. That level of secrecy around such a specific, deliberate request speaks to just how seriously Foxx took the moment, even if the story now reads as a lighthearted anecdote years later.

Beyond the height discrepancy itself, Foxx also described the overall atmosphere DiCaprio and Jackson brought to set once they joined production, joking that the pair walked in smoking their vapes and moving in what felt like slow motion. Foxx starred as the title character, a freed slave turned bounty hunter searching for his wife across the antebellum South.
