‘The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon’ Final Season Teaser Promises an Emotional Goodbye in 2027

Daryl Dixon’s long journey through The Walking Dead universe is finally coming to an end, and the final chapter is already looking like an emotional one. AMC has confirmed that Season 4 of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon will be the show’s last season, bringing Norman Reedus’ long-running story to a close in 2027. With the final eight episodes already filmed and a teaser building anticipation for what comes next, fans now have one last trip with Daryl and Carol to look forward to.

Reedus has played Daryl since The Walking Dead first premiered in 2010, turning a character who was not even part of the original comic story into one of the franchise’s biggest stars. After the main series ended, Daryl was given his own spinoff, which sent him across Europe and placed him in a completely different kind of Walking Dead story. What started as an unexpected new chapter has now become one of the final major stories in the franchise, and the upcoming season will bring that adventure to its conclusion.

The actor has already shared an emotional message about reaching the finish line. “Daryl Dixon has been an incredible journey. I thank each and every fan who has joined us on this ride,” Reedus said. He added, “It’s been a privilege to build this story for these characters, and we have so much gratitude for how it’s been embraced. Your love and support have made every moment worth it.” Those comments make it clear that the ending means a lot to Reedus, especially after spending more than 15 years playing the same character.

Reedus also marked the end of filming with another message that gave fans a better idea of how important these final episodes are. “Daryl Dixon’s final episodes are coming 2027! I can’t quite believe we’re here,” he wrote on social media. The actor then joked about everything the cast and crew went through while making the series, saying, “We’ve gotten a lot of bruises, scars, and concussions along the way. A lot of hard work went into this series, especially the crews. This last chapter is gonna hit different and hit hard.” That final line has only added more excitement around the ending.

One of the biggest reasons the final season matters is the return of Melissa McBride as Carol Peletier. Carol was missing for much of the early part of the spinoff, but she came back in Season 3 and reunited with Daryl. Their friendship has been one of the most important relationships in The Walking Dead, and the final season gives the show a chance to properly finish their story. According to creator David Zabel, the eight episodes were filmed in several parts of Spain, including Madrid, Bilbao, Galicia, Andalucia, Segovia, and Toledo, giving the final season plenty of real locations for its post-apocalyptic setting.

The decision to end Daryl Dixon was first announced during the show’s San Diego Comic-Con panel in July 2025. More details were confirmed at this year’s Comic-Con, where executive producer Scott M. Gimple revealed that the final season is planned for 2027. AMC has not announced an exact premiere date yet, so fans will have to wait a little longer before finding out when the final journey officially begins. The season was originally expected to arrive in 2026, making the delay frustrating for viewers who wanted the story to wrap up sooner.

Even though Daryl Dixon is ending, this may not be the last time fans see Norman Reedus in the role. Gimple has spoken about the possibility of Daryl eventually meeting Rick Grimes again, while AMC Studios President Dan McDermott has also indicated that conversations about Reedus returning to the character could continue. Nothing has been confirmed, but the possibility of another appearance gives fans at least a little hope that this goodbye may not be permanent.

For now, the final season is set to give Daryl and Carol one last story together. After years of fighting walkers, surviving impossible situations, crossing countries, and trying to find their way back home, the pair finally have an ending ahead of them. The teaser and Reedus’ emotional comments suggest Season 4 will not simply be another adventure.
