‘Miraculous’ Is Going Live-Action, the Ladybug and Cat Noir Era Is About to Change
Miraculous is officially getting a live-action series, and it sounds like the project is already moving behind the scenes.
The news comes directly from Jeremy Zag, the co-creator of Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir and the head of ZAG Entertainment. Zag spoke with Deadline at Unifrance’s Rendez Vous market in France, where he discussed the future of the franchise and confirmed that the live-action project is now in active development.
Fans have been waiting to find out what comes next for Miraculous, and this is the clearest update yet. Zag revealed that the team working on the live-action series has already been put together. Producers and writers are currently developing the show, with the goal of bringing the world of Ladybug and Cat Noir into live-action without losing what made the animated series so popular.
Zag also made it clear that the new series will not simply copy the animated show. The team wants to keep the heart of the franchise while finding a new way to present it on screen.
“We’re going to keep the DNA of what people love about Miraculous,” Zag told Deadline.
That could be an important promise for longtime fans. The original series has built a huge audience around Marinette Dupain-Cheng and Adrien Agreste, two teenagers who secretly become the superheroes Ladybug and Cat Noir. Their magical powers come from the Miraculous jewels, which are connected to small magical creatures called Kwamis.
The franchise has grown far beyond the original animated show. Since Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir premiered in 2015, it has expanded into movies, video games, comics, manga, web projects, merchandise and other forms of entertainment. A live-action series would be another major step for a franchise that has already become a global hit.
There is still plenty we do not know about the new series. Casting details have not been announced, and it is unclear how closely the live-action version will follow the animated story. Fans will also be watching to see how the show’s colorful costumes, magical transformations and superhero battles are brought into the real world.
Zag’s comments came during a bigger conversation about his upcoming projects. He also discussed Melody, a new animated movie featuring Katy Perry. Perry is not only lending her voice to the project but is also involved creatively, including work on the music and story.
Melody follows a young girl who dreams of becoming a singer but struggles with confidence. Zag said Perry has become deeply involved in shaping the film, making her role much bigger than simply providing a voice.
The project is also bringing in Gary Trousdale, the filmmaker best known for directing Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. That gives Melody some serious animation experience behind it.
For now, though, Miraculous fans have plenty of reason to be excited. A live-action version of Ladybug and Cat Noir is no longer just an idea being discussed. According to Zag and his comments to Deadline, the project has a creative team and is already moving forward.
The biggest question now is what this new version will look like. If Zag and his team can capture the charm of the original while giving the characters and their world a fresh live-action style, Miraculous could be ready for its biggest transformation yet.
