‘Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War’ Delays Its Final Episodes Until October

Fans of “Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War” will have to wait a little longer to see how the anime finally ends. The series has delayed its last two episodes, moving Episode 49 to October 19 and the final Episode 50 to October 26. The news came at the worst possible time for viewers, as the announcement was made only about an hour before Episode 49 was supposed to arrive on Hulu and Disney+. After years of waiting for the final arc, many fans were already ready to watch the next chapter when the schedule suddenly changed.

According to an official statement from the production committee, the extra time is being used to improve the quality of the anime as it reaches its biggest moments. The committee said the goal was to enhance the quality toward the climax and deliver the work as strongly as possible, according to CBR. Instead of pushing the episodes out on their original dates, the production team has decided that giving the final episodes more time is the better choice. That could be especially important for an arc that has been building toward some of Ichigo Kurosaki’s biggest battles.

The delay does not mean fans will have nothing to watch during the break. TV Tokyo is planning a series of “Climax Selection” episodes to fill the weeks before the story returns. These episodes will revisit important moments from the earlier parts of the Thousand-Year Blood War, giving viewers a chance to refresh their memories before the final battles. The recap episodes are scheduled for September 19, September 26, October 5 and October 12, creating a steady lead-up to the new finale dates.

Episode 49, which is the ninth episode of “The Calamity,” will now air in Japan on TV Tokyo on October 19. It will then arrive on BS TV Tokyo on October 20, with streaming releases also following on October 20. Episode 50 will serve as the actual series finale and is scheduled for TV Tokyo on October 26, followed by BS TV Tokyo and streaming releases on October 27. For international viewers, that means the wait will stretch roughly another month before they can finally see how the story comes to an end.

The timing is particularly noticeable because “The Calamity” is already the shortest part of the four-part adaptation, with only 10 episodes planned. Fans have spent years following the anime as it slowly worked through Tite Kubo’s final manga storyline, so getting this close to the ending only to face another delay is naturally frustrating. At the same time, the decision shows just how much importance the production team is placing on the final episodes rather than simply sticking to a deadline.

“Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War” has always taken a different approach to its release schedule. The anime returned in 2022 with “The Separation” before moving into “The Conflict” and eventually “The Calamity.” The longer gaps between parts have given the production more time to work on the adaptation, while also making fans wait longer for each new batch of episodes. That patience has now become part of the experience for viewers who have followed Ichigo’s journey for years.

The larger “Bleach” story has been around even longer. The original anime began in 2004 and ran for eight years before ending without adapting the manga’s final arc. Fans then waited about a decade before the Thousand-Year Blood War finally received an animated adaptation. With that history behind it, the ending carries plenty of weight, and the production team’s choice to delay the final two episodes suggests they do not want to rush the conclusion.

While waiting another month may be disappointing, the new schedule at least gives fans a clear finish line. The “Climax Selection” episodes should also help keep the series in the spotlight while viewers prepare for the final battles. If the extra production time results in stronger animation and a more polished conclusion, the delay could end up feeling worthwhile when “Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War” finally reaches its ending on October 26.
