Pierce Brosnan Has a Bold Theory About Who’s Actually Going To Play the Next James Bond

The hunt for cinema’s next James Bond has stretched on for nearly five years now, ever since Daniel Craig closed out his era with ‘No Time to Die’ back in 2021. With Amazon MGM Studios now holding creative control over the franchise following its landmark deal with the Broccoli family, speculation over who’ll step into the tuxedo has only intensified.

That search has taken concrete shape with Denis Villeneuve now attached to direct the franchise’s next chapter, and casting director Nina Gold, whose credits include ‘The Crown,’ multiple ‘Star Wars’ films, and an Oscar nomination for ‘Hamnet,’ brought aboard to lead the search. Names like Callum Turner, Jacob Elordi, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Harris Dickinson, and Jack Lowden have all circulated as potential contenders, with reports suggesting a shortlist has already taken shape behind the scenes.

Into that swirl of speculation steps former 007 Pierce Brosnan, who’s offered his own theory on how this whole casting saga might ultimately play out. According to Brosnan, the producers could very well bypass every name currently being floated and choose someone entirely unexpected instead, someone the public hasn’t even considered yet.

Brosnan described the current pool of candidates as full of strong options, noting there’s no shortage of talented actors being discussed for the role. Still, he suggested the eventual pick might come completely out of left field, landing on someone audiences simply don’t know about right now.

When pressed on who he’d personally choose, Brosnan was careful not to play favorites, joking that his wife had already warned him against saying too much, since any opinion he shares tends to spread everywhere and comes back to bite him. He made clear he genuinely has no preference of his own, framing himself now as simply another fan eagerly waiting to see who lands the role next.

That sense of distance from his own Bond legacy extends further than just casting opinions. Brosnan has also revealed he doesn’t revisit his own four films in the role, saying he has no real desire to watch himself as Bond anymore and would rather just enjoy the franchise’s next installment as a viewer.

This isn’t the first time Brosnan has stirred conversation about Bond’s future. Back in August 2025, he playfully floated the idea of returning to the role himself, joking about the prospect of playing a much older, senior-citizen version of the spy, a lighthearted suggestion rather than any real indication of his interest in an actual comeback.

Brosnan starred as Bond across four films between 1995 and 2002, including ‘GoldenEye,’ ‘Tomorrow Never Dies,’ ‘The World Is Not Enough,’ and ‘Die Another Day,’ cementing his own era as a bridge between the character’s more classic and modern interpretations. That history gives his outsider perspective on the current search some extra weight, even as he insists he’s not trying to influence the outcome in any way.

With Amazon MGM keeping its casting process tightly under wraps and no official announcement yet made, fans are left to parse comments like Brosnan’s for any hint of where things might be headed. Whether the studio truly does go the unexpected route Brosnan is predicting, or ultimately lands on one of the already-buzzed-about names, remains to be seen.
