Netflix is preparing to unveil its take on one of Poland’s most celebrated literary works, and the series has been building steady anticipation ahead of its arrival. ‘The Doll’ lands on the streamer on September 16, offering a lush, obsessive romance set against nineteenth century finery and simmering class tension.
The series is adapted from the renowned nineteenth century serialized Polish novel by Bolesław Prus, and it follows a man who dedicates his life to winning over an aristocrat, weaving together themes of obsession, class and emotional risk. Sandra Drzymalska
Sandra Drzymalska leads the series as Izabela Łęcka, the aristocrat at the center of the story’s central romance. She was nominated for a Polish Academy Award for her role in Jerzy Skolimowski’s ‘EO’ in 2022, and Netflix audiences may recognize her as Monika from the comedy series ‘Sexify,’ which ran for two seasons.
Drzymalska has since taken on leading roles in ‘Simona Kossak’ and ‘White Courage,’ earning two more Polish Academy Award nominations for Best Actress, and in 2025 she starred in the Disney+ period crime drama ‘The Breslau Murders’ before joining ‘The Doll’ the following year. Her casting places her at the emotional core of the show’s love triangle.
Tomasz Schuchardt
Opposite Drzymalska is Tomasz Schuchardt in the role of Stanisław Wokulski, the self-made merchant whose desire for Izabela becomes his obsession. Born on September 18, 1986, Schuchardt has appeared in more than twenty films since 2007, and he has received three Gdynia Film Festival Awards along with a nomination for the Polish Academy Award for Best Actor for the 2022 drama ‘Chrzciny.’
In 2024, he won the Polish Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in ‘Doppelgänger.’ He also had a supporting role in ‘Operation Hyacinth,’ a Netflix original film that premiered in 2021, giving him prior experience with the streamer before landing the lead in this new period drama.
Dariusz Chojnacki
Dariusz Chojnacki plays Ignacy Rzecki, described in casting coverage as the loyal and idealistic business partner standing beside Wokulski. Chojnacki was born on September 14, 1981, in Zabrze, and he has been a company actor at the Silesian Theatre in Katowice since 2009.

Julia Wyszyńska
Julia Wyszyńska plays Florentyna, described as an impoverished cousin of Izabela who lives within someone else’s social standing and quietly upholds the household’s sense of order. Wyszyńska was born in 1986 in Mysłowice and graduated from the AST National Academy of Theatre Arts in Kraków in 2010, building a career across theatre and screen work since.
Her character sits close to the center of the Łęcka family circle, offering a grounded counterpoint to the more privileged figures moving through the story’s aristocratic drawing rooms.
Magdalena Cielecka
Magdalena Cielecka rounds out the principal ensemble as Kazimiera Wąsowska, a charismatic relative of Izabela’s who casting details describe as an unreachable icon of freedom, someone who lives outside convention and other people’s expectations. Cielecka was born on February 20, 1972, is a five time Polish Film Award nominee, and won the Polish Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in the 2023 historical drama ‘Anxiety.’
