Brad Pitt Shares Hilarious Delivery Driver Mix-up Story at Early ‘Heart of the Beast’ Screening

Brad Pitt and Matt Damon have spent decades as close friends and frequent collaborators, appearing together across the entire “Ocean’s” trilogy and beyond, which has apparently led to more than a few real-world cases of mistaken identity over the years.

Pitt is currently in the middle of promoting his newest film, “Heart of the Beast,” a survival thriller reuniting him with “Fury” director David Ayer for the first time in over a decade. The film follows a former Army Special Forces soldier and his retired combat dog battling to survive after a plane crash strands them deep in the Alaskan wilderness, marking a notably different genre than the war drama that first brought Pitt and Ayer together.

During an early screening event for the film, Pitt took a moment to share a genuinely funny anecdote with the audience about a real-life encounter where he was mistaken for his longtime friend and frequent co-star. According to the story, a delivery driver approached Pitt and insisted he recognized him, only for Pitt to reveal the driver actually thought he was talking to Matt Damon. When Pitt clarified who he actually was, the driver simply doubled down, responding, “I knew it dude, I knew it!”

The anecdote lands especially well given just how intertwined Pitt and Damon’s careers have become since they first worked together on “Ocean’s Eleven” back in 2001. The two went on to reunite for “Confessions of a Dangerous Mind,” both sequels in the “Ocean’s” trilogy, and even a memorable cameo appearance together in “Deadpool 2,” cementing their status as one of Hollywood’s most enduring on-screen and off-screen friendships.

That closeness has occasionally shaped both actors’ careers in more direct ways as well. Given how frequently the two have appeared side by side over more than two decades, it’s not entirely surprising that fans and strangers alike occasionally mix the two actors up in real-life encounters, even if their looks aren’t especially similar beyond both being prominent leading men of a similar generation.

Beyond the lighthearted anecdote, “Heart of the Beast” represents a meaningful reunion for Pitt and Ayer, marking their first collaboration since 2014’s “Fury,” which starred Pitt as a battle-hardened tank commander during World War II. This new project trades the battlefield for the unforgiving Alaskan wilderness, with Pitt starring opposite a German Shepherd named Uber, who plays his character’s combat dog, Odin.

Pitt has spoken in behind-the-scenes footage about the bond he developed with his canine co-star during filming, describing having to keep dog treats on hand throughout emotional scenes to keep Uber focused and cooperative. Co-starring J.K. Simmons, who’s now worked with Ayer twice and appeared in three separate Pitt films, “Heart of the Beast” is set to hit theaters on September 25, 2026.
