Guy Ritchie’s ‘Wife & Dog’ Trailer Drops Anthony Hopkins Into a Chilling Tale of Betrayal and Blood Money

Guy Ritchie has spent the better part of two decades perfecting a very specific kind of crime story, one built on sharp dialogue, sudden violence, and characters whose loyalty is always up for negotiation. His recent run of projects, from ‘The Gentlemen’ film to its television spinoff, has leaned heavily into the world of wealthy British families whose civility barely masks their ruthlessness.

That fascination with old money and new betrayals continues in his next project, which reunites him with two collaborators from his recent work alongside a genuine powerhouse ensemble. Coming off a string of six films since 2022, Ritchie shows no sign of slowing down, even after his previous feature quietly stumbled to release earlier this year.

Black Bear Pictures has released the first teaser trailer for Guy Ritchie’s ‘Wife & Dog,’ starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Rosamund Pike, and Anthony Hopkins. Written, produced, and directed by Ritchie, the thriller follows the relentless betrayal and murder that erupts when the wealthy Fairbank family and their associates turn on one another in a battle over inheritance and succession, with the film arriving in theaters on February 19, 2027.

The teaser opens with Hopkins delivering an ominous voiceover about a man cast into a deep pit who, rather than climbing out, chooses to dig further down until he winds up in Hell. When Pike’s character asks what the man found there, Hopkins’ character delivers a single chilling reply: he found me.

As Hopkins narrates, the footage cuts between glimpses of the Fairbank family’s opulent world, including a formal dinner scene featuring Pike, and darker imagery suggesting a body has washed ashore. Cumberbatch’s character is shown left battered on a rainy road before later scenes reveal him locked in a brutal physical confrontation that ends with him pulling the trigger on someone.

The official synopsis describes the film as a “return to the colourful, back-stabbing world of the British aristocracy” that Ritchie previously explored in ‘The Gentlemen,’ framing ‘Wife & Dog’ as a spiritual continuation of that same territory rather than a complete departure. Details beyond the teaser remain deliberately scarce, though the footage suggests Cumberbatch’s character may have once worked closely with the Fairbanks before a succession dispute turned deadly.

Rounding out the ensemble are Cosmo Jarvis, James Norton, Paddy Considine, and Pip Torrens, giving the film a distinctly British roster of talent well-suited to Ritchie’s signature blend of dark comedy and violence. Jarvis, fresh off his breakout turn in ‘Shogun,’ joins a cast already stacked with award-winning names, reinforcing just how much industry weight this project is carrying into its 2027 release.

Originally expected to arrive sometime in 2026, the film’s release was pushed to February of next year, a delay that follows a somewhat rocky stretch for Ritchie’s recent output. His previous film, ‘In the Grey,’ faced its own significant delays before being quietly released earlier this year with little fanfare, making ‘Wife & Dog’ something of a high-stakes follow-up for the prolific filmmaker.

Early reactions to the teaser have already drawn comparisons to prestige ensemble dramas built around wealthy families turning on each other, suggesting Ritchie may have found the right formula to bounce back.
