Frankie Muniz has shared an emotional update about his struggles in the weeks since announcing his separation from wife Paige Price, describing the period as the most difficult of his life.

In a post shared on Instagram and X on September 18, the “Malcolm in the Middle” star wrote: “The last 6 weeks of my life have been a nightmare I’m praying to wake up from. Everything felt heavy, unclear, and like it was falling apart at the same time. I wouldn’t wish this season on anyone.”

Muniz, 40, went on to describe an “unexpected gift” within the difficulty — the chance for genuine self-reflection. “I’ve had nowhere to hide. I’ve had time to sit with myself, do real self-reflection, and finally see the areas of my life that need work if I want to become a better version of me. Not the polished version I show the world… the actual one.”

He said he had recently read that hitting “rock bottom” can sometimes be the experience that forces overdue change, and that he hopes to eventually look back on this period with gratitude. He closed the message by encouraging others going through a hard time, writing that they’re “not broken” but “being rebuilt.”

Muniz and Price announced on July 1 that they were ending their marriage after a private separation period, writing in a joint statement: “Life update! Following a period of separation that we kept private, Paige and I have decided to move forward with ending our marriage.” The two met in 2016, eloped in 2019, had a formal wedding in February 2020, and share a five-year-old son, Mauz, born in 2021. Muniz thanked Price in the announcement, saying she had “put her own dreams on hold” to support his career.

The split announcement drew some backlash after the couple shared a lighthearted video of themselves dancing together, which Muniz later took down after criticism online. Price responded to Muniz’s post in the comments, writing that she was sorry he “felt the need to delete an old funny video of our family because people are so cruel to you,” and adding that while divorce is difficult, they remain committed to co-parenting as a team.

About two hours after Muniz’s post, Price shared her own reflective message on her Instagram Story — a video of herself using a wax seal, captioned: “Life is all about perspective. If you ask the grass, the zebra is the monster and the lion is the protector.”
