Lili Reinhart Looks Stunning in New the 'Love Hypothesis' Press Photos

Few romance novels have had a journey as unusual as ‘The Love Hypothesis’. Ali Hazelwood’s bestseller began as fanfiction about the ‘Star Wars’ characters Rey and Kylo Ren before being reworked into a modern original story. Now it’s a full-blown film adaptation, and it has been building buzz for months.

Prime Video is releasing the movie exclusively on Sept. 23, in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. It’s directed by Claire Scanlon, written by Sarah Rothschild, and produced by Elizabeth Cantillon. The cast includes Lili Reinhart, Tom Bateman, Rachel Marsh, Nicholas Duvernay, Jaboukie Young-White, and Arty Froushan.

With the premiere just 2 days away, the promotional images are arriving fast.

The images show Reinhart in a sleeveless dark denim top with her blonde hair pulled into a high ponytail. Reinhart plays Olive Smith, a brilliant PhD candidate focused on her future in academia. When she realizes her best friend Ahn has fallen for her crush Jeremy, Olive impulsively kisses the intimidating professor Adam Carlsen, played by Bateman, to prove she’s moved on. That kiss spirals into a fake relationship with rules and boundaries, and the arrangement starts to blur the lines between performance and reality.

The marketing rollout has leaned into the book’s fanbase. When the September date was announced in June, first-look photos of Reinhart and Bateman were released alongside a video of Reinhart grabbing a sugary coffee treat, a nod to Olive’s caffeinated habits. Reinhart and Bateman also appeared at Prime Video’s inaugural Obsessed Fest on June 27, and the official trailer followed in August.

There’s a larger story here too. Coverage has framed the film as the first time Hazelwood’s STEM romances are getting the Hollywood treatment, which is a big deal for readers who have waited years to see her books on screen. Prime Video is also in the middle of a romance and book-adaptation push this year, so the stakes for this release feel higher than a typical streaming debut.
