‘Michael’ Star Laura Harrier Turned Heads at YSL Beauty’s Downtown Block Party
Over the past few years, YSL Beauty has turned its Block Party series into one of the more talked-about experiential marketing plays in the beauty world. The events transform ordinary city spaces into pop-up celebrations built around new product launches. The brand kicked off this latest run with a London stop at Rough Trade East in early September.
The series has now made its way to New York. On Saturday, Sept. 19, YSL Beauty took over La Esquina, the SoHo taqueria at the corner of Kenmare and Lafayette, for a one-night-only edition. The guest list included Teyana Taylor, Lauryn Hill, Emmy Rossum, Karl-Anthony Towns and his wife Jordyn Woods, plus a DJ performance by Mark Ronson.
In both shots, Harrier wears a head-to-toe black look: a lace-trimmed cami, dark jeans, and a leather jacket draped off her shoulders, with slim dark sunglasses and long, wavy dark hair. The two frames are nearly identical, with small shifts in her pose against a textured gray backdrop. It’s a low-key, downtown-friendly outfit that suits the venue.
Harrier isn’t just a guest. She serves as one of YSL Beauty’s U.S. makeup ambassadors alongside model Amelia Gray, which puts her at the center of the brand’s American push. Comic Basics also notes that Harrier’s fresh photos from the party have been making the rounds online, with Cinethology sharing images of her look.
The event was built around 2 new launches: the Black Opium Pink Glaze fragrance and the Make Me Blush Cream Lifted Glow cream blush. Both are meant to give the brand’s core Black Opium franchise a fresh, playful update. The party’s decor leaned into the city’s vernacular, with vending machines and deli-window product displays scattered around the space, a custom pink-and-black pool table, and an on-site BANG BANG tattoo parlor.

For Harrier, the appearance is a reminder of how far her profile has grown. She first reached a massive mainstream audience as Liz Allan opposite Tom Holland in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ nearly a decade ago. Since then, she has built out a steady career across film and television.
That kind of crossover is exactly what beauty brands look for in their ambassadors. A cast of actors, musicians, and athletes gives events like this a wide reach across different audiences. It’s why YSL Beauty describes the Block Party series as embedding itself directly into local culture instead of simply visiting a city.
Coverage of the night has stayed fairly light so far, and some outlets note that details about the event’s purpose are still emerging. Still, the images alone show why these activations keep drawing so much attention. In New York, Harrier’s monochrome look was one of the standout moments of a well-attended night.
