Ahsoka Season 2 Just Gave Fans a New Look at What’s Coming
Star Wars fans have been patient. ‘Ahsoka‘ Season 2 arrives more than three years after Season 1 launched in August 2023. That first season premiered with two episodes on Aug. 22, 2023, and drew high viewership.
The show has also picked up hardware since then. Season 1 won a Creative Arts Emmy for costume design and earned a nomination for outstanding special visual effects. The second season’s marketing campaign began at D23 in August, where Disney showed a teaser trailer and poster and confirmed a Jan 20, 2027 premiere on Disney+.
Now a fresh piece of promotional art has arrived. Alongside a reminder that the series lands on Disney+ on Jan 20. It shows Ahsoka Tano in a pale hooded cloak, lightsaber in hand, riding a large shaggy beast across a dry, barren landscape with mountains in the distance.
The image is a striking one. Nothing about the setting looks like the polished worlds of the first season, and the scale of the creature suggests a very different kind of journey. It is the kind of frame that leaves plenty of questions about where exactly Ahsoka has ended up.
The official season synopsis offers some clues. Ahsoka and her apprentice Sabine Wren travel across a mysterious and perilous world to find their way home. Trade coverage of the teaser described the pair as stranded beyond the known galaxy. That would fit a rugged, otherworldly backdrop like this one.
Back in the known galaxy, the story splits. Hera, Ezra, Zeb and Chopper must face Grand Admiral Thrawn and his allies, who seek to plunge the New Republic into war. The teaser also promised big space battles, with Ezra Bridger taking the fight to Dathomir.

The returning cast is stacked. Rosario Dawson leads, joined by Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Ivanna Sakhno, Eman Esfandi, Hayden Christensen, Ariana Greenblatt, Lars Mikkelsen and Rory McCann. McCann takes over the role of Baylan Skoll, while Christensen returns as Anakin Skywalker.
Behind the camera, Dave Filoni continues to steer the ship. The season consists of eight episodes, all written by Filoni. Bryce Dallas Howard directed two of them, with Filoni, Jennifer Getzinger, and Anders Engström also directing.

Fans have theories about how the second season will connect to the wider saga. According to Wikipedia, the season sees Ahsoka and Sabine go on a journey related to the mysterious Mortis gods while confronting the fallen Jedi Baylan Skoll. If that is accurate, this new image could be the first glimpse of the strange terrain that comes with it.
Visual effects are once again likely to be a major talking point. Season 1 needed 4,000 visual effects shots under VFX supervisor Richard Bluff. A creature-and-landscape shot like this one hints at a similarly ambitious approach for the new episodes.
With the premiere roughly four months away, expect the trickle of exclusive images to turn into a steady stream. For now, this glimpse of Ahsoka far from home is a solid reminder of why the wait has felt so long.
