Marvel’s Live-Action TV Slate Enters a New Era With Mysterious ‘Zodiac’ Project

Marvel Television has spent much of 2026 trying to figure out exactly what its Disney+ footprint should look like. Between shifting release plans, showrunner changes, and a string of will-they-won’t-they renewal decisions, the studio’s small-screen strategy has felt anything but settled lately.

Fans have been left piecing together clues from social media, trade reports, and the occasional executive comment to understand where the franchise is headed next. That uncertainty has only grown as some of the platform’s flagship series wind down.

Now there’s real movement to report. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel continually keeps three to five live-action shows in active development, and the studio has just greenlit a new spy thriller operating under the codename ‘Zodiac.’

Details remain deliberately scarce. It is unclear exactly what the title refers to, though the most obvious connection within Marvel’s comic book history involves a villainous group led by Scorpio, whose members are themed around the constellations of the zodiac. That particular incarnation of the team notably clashed with the Secret Warriors in the pages created by Jonathan Hickman and Brian Michael Bendis, giving longtime readers a tantalizing, if unconfirmed, starting point for speculation.

The timing of this news isn’t a coincidence. ‘Zodiac’ is reportedly emerging as Marvel weighs how to fill the gap left by ‘Daredevil: Born Again,’ which is set to wrap its run after a third season. That series originally revived the character following three earlier seasons on Netflix, and its ending marks the close of a significant chapter for the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen on the streamer.

Marvel’s television output has been noticeably thinning out in recent months. ‘VisionQuest,’ the final chapter of the ‘WandaVision’ trilogy starring Paul Bettany, is the next series set to premiere and remains the sole new Marvel show currently on the release calendar. Meanwhile, Disney+ opted not to move forward with a second season of ‘Wonder Man,’ further narrowing the studio’s active slate.

That pullback had fueled a wave of reporting suggesting Marvel was walking away from live-action television altogether, save for a handful of exceptions. The ‘Zodiac’ greenlight complicates that narrative considerably, suggesting the studio is still willing to invest in new concepts even as it trims existing ones.

It’s also worth noting that other outlets have floated conflicting accounts of Marvel’s television ambitions in recent weeks, with some reports pointing toward a possible ‘Nova’ series or an ‘X-Men’ show also taking shape behind the scenes. Whether any of those projects, ‘Zodiac’ included, ultimately make it to air remains to be seen, since development deals don’t guarantee a formal production order.

For now, Marvel Studios and Disney+ have not issued any public comment on ‘Zodiac’ or the broader state of the company’s television plans. That silence has left plenty of room for fans to fill in the blanks, and social media reaction to the news has already leaned into theories connecting the project to figures like Nick Fury’s brother or other shadowy corners of the MCU’s espionage side.

What is clear is that Marvel isn’t done experimenting with its Disney+ output, even as the shape of that slate continues to shift. Whether ‘Zodiac’ becomes the next breakout hit or quietly fades into development limbo, it’s a reminder that the studio still has surprises in store.
